The trailer for James Gray's intense space odyssey opens with Roy on a mission in outer-space, but something goes wrong as explosions go off at the space station he is working in which sends him hurtling back to Earth.

Waking from a coma, the character seems worse for wear as his partner, played by Liv Tyler, ominously tells him: 'It’s crazy out there, there’s fires everywhere and plane crashes. They’re calling it The Surge.'

Once recovered from his fall from space, Roy is taken in to a covert meeting with government officials where they ask him about the mysterious Lemur project, which saw his father travel to Neptune.

He explains: 'Its objective was to search for advanced extra-terrestrial life, the ship disappeared approximately 16 years into the mission.'
