I. M. Mueller - Between Dream and Reality

Born and raised in Switzerland

I'm a fine arts artist, graphic designer and illustrator. My formation years were in Switzerland where I was born and grew up, Swiss on my Father's side, but I am also part Brazilian on my Mother's side.

Kindergarten in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

I and my parents my 2 older siblings immigrated to Brazil when I was about six years old, due to my father's work. So I attended Kindergarten in a Swiss School in Rio de Janeiro halfway up the Corcovado Mountain, as you can imagine the view was fantastic, but almost a year later we moved back to Switzerland where I attended the rest of my education.

From Primary School and High School in my hometown to Art School and last Fashion School in my State's Capital, St. Gallen – CH.

I was always fascinated by art since I was a toddler and my first conscious memory was when I was about 4, and about space as I was an avid Star Trek fan and loved to read Sci-Fi like Perry Rhodan, since I was able to read and also adventures, action and really all kind of Books, and Tarzan. Watched on TV as a child the First Moon expedition, live. Got up to watch boxing with Cassius Clay live then and after as Muhammad Ali, with my eight years older brother to the horror of my parents as they could not understand how a little girl could like boxing. Oh, but it had to be Cassius Clay, it was a show.

Back to Brazil

After my school years I immigrated with my parents and my younger sister to my Mother's homeland, Brazil, again. I still live in a harbor - beach city in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Since I moved to Brazil I participated in many expositions, collective or solo. But my last one was in Switzerland in my hometown many years ago as I decided to give a bit of a halt in my participation to dedicate myself more in my work.


We moved around a lot from the seaside to the heart of Brazil. First was in Santos – SP until we move to Sao Paulo – SP, then to the seaside of the same State again where I worked as a Graphic Designer in Publicity Agency – Hugo Paiva, on the Crew and learning Portuguese with them, as I was raised in a Swiss-German country where I had learned also English and French but no Portuguese, I sure had and still have a Swiss-German accent so I had to repeat sometimes three times what I said. It was a fun time for me of learning the publicity world and communication and my entering the world to participate in many Exhibitions in Santos-SP and get to know many local artists over the years.

My work consits mostly in Surrealism and Fantasy-Art. My first sold drawing was for a Portrait of Celebrities at a Celebrity Collective, Elvis Presley. One of the Competitions and Exhibitions was my inclusion to CCBEU with Fantasy-Art for Artists under 35 years of age. I was very happy about it with "Discovery". At the same Year I won the highest prize in the Drawing-Section, the Silver medal as best in the Section of all Drawing Works of that with a surrealistic work of light and shadows in pencil "The Elephant".

We decided to move again so afterwards we travelled around for 4 months at least until we got to Goiania – Go.

For many years I also gave Art lessons from Basic to Advanced in all techniques and mediums at my atelier, in Goiania - Go. Some time later I was asked to give three months Basic Courses of Drawing held by a Magazine called “Leia Brasil” which got on to an Advanced Course as well. And throughout got to know local artists there and participate again in many Exhibitions and Collectives.


At my home atelier I had pupils who stayed for my lessons the whole eight years we stayed in Goiania. They just wanted to learn more on Saturday afternoons or mornings as I gave 4 hours lessons on that day, as there is much to learn when you teach in all techniques and mediums and art branches. It was a fun time as my atelier was filled with students of all ages from 1st years to I think 80 years old pensioners all mixed at the same time. From basics to advanced, some learning in Pencil, others were already on Oil or Acrylics, Ink, Pastel or Colored Pencils in landscapes, seascapes, figurative, portraits, even the Comics world, what appealed a lot to the younger generation to learn to create and use the techniques I taught. It is fun and heart warming to teach and see people, some who never had a slight knowledge how to draw, begin to work up to beautiful pieces of art. Some were harder to teach others got it soon, but all learned in the end. As one of my art teacher's used to say. Exercise makes the Master!

I paint and draw in diverse techniques as I love all and can't just decide to use only one. My Art branches to the Surrealism, Fantasy Art, any kind of Portraits and Figurative Drawings. But I also love to draw for Book Covers and Interior or Covers in general. In Graphic Design I create Logos and such even Motives for T-Shirts or Posters, or Comics. I never get bored as I do a lot of things at the same time.
