The new century hasn't been generous with Israel in the Eurovision Song Contests: the 2000-2004 entrants failed to reach respectable positions, not to mention failing to qualify from the semi-final in the last contest. IBA now seems to comprehend that a change is very much needed. Therefore, IBA decided today on a major shift in the pre-selection procedure, by abolishing the controversial committee, which chose Israel's entrants in the years 1998-2004 (except for 2001).
"The previous method hasn't proven itself very successful, and it was even clearer last year when it came to the song pre-selection show", says head of TV committee in the IBA, as he must be referring to the show where To Believe was chosen. That show was, by all means, one of the IBA's poorest productions ever. "The previous system was just not very appropriate for television. we decided to listen to the public's demand and revive the Kdam-Eurovision", says IBA's head of entertainment and head of delegation to Eurovision.
Despite all that, the Kdam-Eurovision will undergo major changes. The format is currently under development, but apparently Israel will follow Sweden (and other countries) by using qualifying rounds leading to a grand final. Contestants will compete in 3 rounds, which will take place in a southern city (which hasn't been selected yet), Tel-Aviv and Haifa. The grand final will be broadcasted from the capital city, Jerusalem.
Head of entertainment confirmed that for the time being, Israel will be absent from the 50th anniversary extravaganza, but added by saying: "I would like to believe and wish this decision will eventually be altered", leaving a small reason for hope for Israeli fans.

i don't know how the Kdam in 1996 was, but it was a definately good one in 2001, where at least 5 songs from the final would have done a great job in Denmark.
i hope that Kdam becomes succesfull with lot's of good artists again, maybe not all mentioned will participate, but i hope that SOME of them will at least..
and we all know that there are always new comers, both good and bad ones, i suppose!
well, on one hand i can say that the return of kdam-eurovision is a great thing. but on the other hand i doubt if it will bring any good for israel. most respectful artists in israel are terrified by the word "eurovision" and that's a shame for us esc fans. i fear that the overall result of the kdam would be as bad as in 2001 and 1996(when we didn't even qualify to the grand final in norway). i fear that most of the songs would be shallow, in low quality and performed by non familiar artists. let's all hope that i'm wrong, ok? )
anyway, my favorites to represent us in 2005 are (if someone gives a damn...): Harel Skaat, Ninette Tayeb, Ishtar, Maya Buskila, Regev, Sharona & Daniella Pick, Ha-Dorbanim, Sigal Shachmon (ESC 1999 hostess), Momi Levi, Ronnie, Sarit Hadad (yes! again!!!) and finally, our biggest star of all - LIOR NARKIS!!! mmm... actually... NAAAAAAAA!!!
well, BEHATZLACHA LE-YISRA'EL (good luck israel).
no Boaz Sharabi this year either....i am about to give up hope on seeing him in the ESC ever....another boy Israel could send (but his star is falling) is Doron Mazar.... however, my taste is not what the israelis like, they always say to me that my music taste is trashy when it comes to their music!
to all of the israeli fans and the israeli songs lovers all over europe-I wrote an e-mail to iba spooks man Mr Amos goren about the article that says that israel will be out from the 50th anuavursery show becose of missing 70000 euro. i claimed there that its will be a shame if israel will not take part in this tv show. i also wrote him all the reasons why we should participate.
it was a very nice ,responsiable and reasonable e-male and he told me that he took my claims siriously and will speak to the managers on the iba organization and he will let them know that its important to a lot of people that israel will compit. he told me that he have a feeling that they will change their mind and israel will be inside the celabration.
so i hope my e-mail helped.
