Wolf Gemora's new Southern California-based rock trio releases a 4-song demo online by Jim Ayson People have been wondering what's up with the members of Wolfgang since the band quietly disbanded sometime towards the end of 2002. Unlike some other band breakups, none of them have given up on music. They're all still plugging away at their respective music scenes. Take drummer Wolf Gemora for instance. After Wolfgang's breakup, Wolf sold his drums in Manila and moved to southern California, where he lost no time in auditioning for the local bands. Eventually he hooked up with James Macdonell (vocals and guitar)and Danny Gonzalez (bass). Together they formed the hard-driving rock trio Lokomotiv. The band now plays steady gigs all over the the SoCal area, including a recent gig at the legendary Whisky a GoGo on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. Demos R Us Like bands everywhere, they're working for the holy grail: getting a recording contract. Hoping to get there soon, Lokomotiv has recently cut a 4-song demo CD. The tracks on the disc include the originals "All You Can Be," "Misery," "Turn It Up", and "Middle Man." Listeners have noted the band's traditional old-school heavy rock sound - no trendy gimmicks or rap interludes. Mainly crunching power chord riffs and a unrelenting driving groove befitting the band's name. A few copies of the demo CDs have made their way down to Manila, where Razorback guitarist Dave Aguirre has been burning copies for friends and anyone interested. Some local radio stations have also gotten a copy, and the band was recently featured on Rhany Torres' revived Pinoy Rock n' Rhythm show on DZRJ-AM in Manila. "If you want a copy, just send a message to my buddy David Aguirre (deybid@hotmail.com), provide your own CDrs and he'll make you a copy," advises Wolf. He encourages people to spread the songs around, in the hope of building some underground buzz for the band. Lastly, Wolf has announced that the band's demos are now available online for free download. The songs are available in WMA (Windows Media) format at www.endcorporate.com/lokomotiv - yes, that's the same server that used to host Wolfgang's "Cathedral of Wolves" fan site.
Where are they now? As to what the rest of the band is up to now, here's a brief summary: Basti Artardi (vocals) is busy up in northern California with his new band Kitaan (www.kitaan.com). Brand Inman (guitar), Scott Shiraki (bass), Chris Stone (guitar), and Dan Demeo (drums) make up the rest of Kitaan. The quintet has been busy with gigs in their neck of the woods, including a stint opening for Rivermaya at the San Francisco leg of their tour. Manuel Legarda (guitar) has a new band in Manila called Dirt. Mon Legaspi now plays bass with the legendary band The Dawn. As it happens, Wolf, Basti, and Manuel are all online at Wolfgang's old mailing list, Wolfmusic, which is still very much online and still maintains quite an active virtual community. Every now and then they leave messages updating their old fans about their new activities. For these guys, life after Wolfgang does go
on, and keeps on rockin'. Feedback about this story? Email: feedback@philmusic.com More
