“Today American families face many difficult challenges at home and abroad. There has never been a time when foreign affairs were as closely linked to the daily lives of the people of Wisconsin as they are now. We are fighting the causes of terrorism that threaten our homes and we must prepare for a changing global economy. We must address our health care crisis, with over 45 million of our citizens are uninsured.
“Steve Kagen believes that security begins with addressing the health care needs of our citizens in the face of spiraling out-of-control health care costs. Wisconsin doctors voted Steve as one of the ‘Best Doctors in America,’ and his revolutionary work in identifying new causes of asthma have earned him international standing. His well-informed and comprehensive “No Patient Left Behind” proposal deserves serious consideration by Congress. A vote for Steve will allow one of Wisconsin’s own sons to bring extraordinary expertise to solving a crisis that affects us all.
“Dr. Kagen will also bring the values into Congress needed to heal our country, demanding accountability to the people, controls on spending, and protection of our civil rights. Steve understands the needs of working people. His first job was as a Teamster bagging sugar and whey, and he is deeply concerned with the outsourcing of jobs and manufacturing overseas and will work to create more jobs for Americans. Steve and I agree that defending our national security also includes the protection of the quality of our lives by defending our environment and by vigorously pursuing energy independence from foreign oil. Steve was honored with an award from the Environmental Protection Agency for his health education program for children.
