NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit dedicated a Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) to the residents of the Okhla Industrial Area at a ceremony here on Thursday. Ms. Dikshit expressed confidence that the CETP would go a long way in reducing pollution in the Yamuna. Industries Minister Mangat Ram Singhal presided over the function. Delhi State Industrial Development Corporation (DSIDC) Managing Director Jalaj Srivastava was among those present. Constructed at a total cost of Rs.20 crores, the new plant is a joint venture of the Government and private enterprises as part of the Bhagidari scheme. After completion of the construction, a joint trial run was carried out and it was established that the treated effluent was meeting the required standards as per environmental laws. The plant was then handed over to the CETP Society Okhla on March 1.
