Louis “Bob” Trinchero - 1994
White Zinfandel helped create a new American wine market when it appeared in the early 1970s. Credit Bob Trinchero with seeing the possibilities before anyone else. His Sutter Home winery, an early champion of the unique California grape variety, had made its name with sturdy red Zinfandels from Amador County grapes. But it was pink wine that truly put Sutter Home on the map. Trinchero made a new, slightly sweeter style in 1975 that proved a big hit. Following this triumph, Trinchero increased vineyard holdings and expanded into other varietals, all the while keeping the business in family hands. Photographed in 1994.
