Kansas Weather And Climate
Kansas weather can be described best by dividing the state into three parts, a humid eastern part, a western dry section, and the more humid south central and south east section.
The eastern section has cold winters and hot humid summers. Thunderstorms and rain are most common in the spring and summer. Winters are cold
The west is drier, with hot but dry summer weather. Winters are milder in the south and colder in the north part of the western region of Kansas. The area only gets 16 inches of precipitation in a normal year.
The southeast and south central part of the state receives more rain than the rest, and has the mildest winters because of higher humidity. This area gets 46 inches of precipitation in a normal year.
Kansas is the 9th sunniest state in the United States. On the downside, tornado activity is well above average, both in frequency and intensity.
