Depending on what you look at, that may or may not be his entire name. In some cases, it’s let slip that his full name is actually Captain Douglas Jay Falcon, but in the animated version of the F-Zero story, he’s just plain Captain Falcon, the latest heir to a series of Captains Falcon before him.
Either way, he’s still the premier hovercraft pilot on the F-Zero racing circuit, behind the controls of his famous Blue Falcon racer. Once upon a time, he was a renowned bounty hunter, feared by criminals throughout the galaxy, but he’s chosen to retire from the jet-setting life, and dashes back to his comfortable home in the island city of Port Town after each competition.
In F-Zero, Falcon is usually one of the most effective all-around racers, with no unusual strengths, but no weaknesses either. He’s been cloned at least once, though, which produced his rival Blood Falcon (a far more reckless and dangerous pilot than the straight-and-true original).
Falcon represents the F-Zero series in all three of Nintendo’s Smash Bros. fighting games, favoring a two-fisted infighting style – his thumping Falcon Punch delivers a wallop whenever it lands. However, he’s not part of the immediately selectable lineup in the third game, Smash Bros. Brawl, but must be unlocked by meeting and defeating him in the single-player game.
