Confirmed that you can use the remote app to control the Apple TV. You can read the official description for the App by going to the iTunes Store (from within iTunes 7.7) and doing a search for "Remote." It will be listed under the new Applications section of the iTunes Store.

Yes, it looks like if you go to Settings, then General, the "Pair Remote" tab has now switched to "Remotes" and it seems as though you will be able to use your iPod or iPhone once the 2.0 Software Update becomes available AND you download the Remote App.

There's a great new feature called 'Wish List' which enables you to mark any movies that you want to watch later. It just adds them all into a menu unsurprisingly called 'Wish List'... funny about that.
I've been wanting this for a while!
Plus, some movies have a badge that tells you when the movie will be available to rent.
Nice additions!

Fantastic! The wish list will help them compete with Netflix too (I hated not having a place to store movie recommendations on my Apple TV).

Another issue has been the support for files with multiple audio tracks. Any news on this one? Is it now possible to choose which language to play?

I'm sure that the AppStore will fill the need soon enough, but I'm left wondering why Apple would produce a remote app that would only control iTunes - at least add remote control of the DVD Player!

It could be me but it looks like the trailers option has been redesigned to match the rest of the movies pages. If I recall correctly prior to 2.1 it still used the text list with the cover art on the left vs the cover art tiles of 2.1

I hope this fixes my audio problem. I only get 3 seconds of audio when I play files in 2.0.

Finally, something I've been asking for since 1.0. With this update AppleTV respects the compilations browsing setting on the host PC the ATV is linked to. This means when browsing by artist no more having to scroll past all those one-hit wonders in that giant 80s box you ripped to iTunes. Woo hoo!!

So far, I've had to manually check for updates for my Apple TV. I though it was supposed to be automatic.
Anyone have any idea how often the Apple TV checks for updates automatically?
With the previous update, I waited probably over a week. This time I just did a manual update as soon as I found out there was an update available.
I am in Canada.

Something else in the audio department: albums now have a small thumbnail. Also, when you go to browse albums through the "Albums" option from the main menu, the artist is listed in the overview as well.
Anyway, I will be using the Artists entry mostly from now on, I have been wanting albums to be organized by artist for ever, but now that the artists menu is filtered, that's almost as good.

AppleTV Hacks?
has anyone had the chance to try to reapply the hacks: The patchstick/ssh/atv, usb support, smbmount???
up until now I was wedded to those "add ons" to appletv. recently i've been trying to convert my .avi files via "appletvfooler" to .mov and load them into iTunes and view them on AppleTV via streaming from iTunes. This seems to work pretty good so far.

You now can see thumbnails of all your photos and can browse through individual images using the remote. This also allows you to start a slideshow from any image in a set. If they just added an option to display the title, and possibly an option to compare images, this would be even more useful to me as a professional photographer.
