Engagement: public diplomacy in a globalised world

Published in July 2008, this publication looks at the theme of engagement with publics overseas, building on the principles set out by Lord Carter in his review of the FCO's public diplomacy.

A collection of essays and case studies

A collection of essays and case studies by authors inside and outside government, each addressing an issue or subject relevant to the challenge and opportunities of public diplomacy in the modern world. Individual subjects range from the lessons of history for public diplomacy and the particular challenges posed by globalisation, to the role of cultural relations, strategic communications and Web 2.0.

Stimulate thinking

Commissioned by Jim Murphy MP, Minister for Europe at the FCO, who also contributes an essay, the publication aims to generate debate and stimulate thinking on public diplomacy among policy-makers, practitioners and experts, and to engage all with an interest in this field.
