ClamAV for Windows

From here you can download a version of ClamAV for Windows. Previously only available for UNIX-like systems, the release of ClamAV on the Windows platform marks a breakthrough in AV technology for Windows. This version is native, that is it was built using Microsoft's Visual Studio 2005 and requires no emulation layer such as Cygwin.

The software includes:

There are many TODOs, so keep an eye here for updates, and help is always appreciated. The build was created using the latest sources from CVS, which includes all the source code needed to build this native system.

Requirements: Windows XP or SBS2003, Pentium processor. We've even had a report that it works under Wine on Linux, thus demonstrating the portability of the technology.

Please note that ClamAV is NOT a desktop AV system, it is aimed to the server market.

Program and Virus Signatures (Version 0.92.1): This software is free and its source code is available under the GPLv2. No warranty is made either explicitly or implicitly for its use, for further details please refer to the GPL.

ClamAV uses the pthreads DLL. You will need to install at least version 2.6 (2.8 recommended) pthreadVC2.dll into a somewhere that ClamAV can find it, such as \Program Files\ClamAV\pthreadVC2.dll.

Some older machines may need to install the latest Windows Installer to install ClamAV.

After installation you can configure many programs to use ClamAV. For example, to set MSN Messenger to use ClamAV to scan all downloads by Tools->Options->File Transfer: enable "scan for files using" then enter "C:\Program Files\clamAV\clamdscan.exe" (use clamscan.exe if you are not running clamd).

Developers and advanced users can download a debug version for use with Visual Studio 2005, new releases are generally made available in the debug version first. The debug release is currently devel-20080704. Be aware that the debugging code included within this version will slow down the software considerably.

Source Code (30/10/07): This is the latest version of the code, patched with the portability fixes and including the project files for Microsoft's Visual Studio 2005.
