Yi Out, Anderson In, Devin Gametime

By FRED KERBER

Yi Jianlian, the 7-foot ball of offensive invisibility, has been replaced in the starting lineup and the rotation by Ryan Anderson. The change starts tonight against the Lakers.

"Both guys obviously are young developing players and they're both learning their ways. Obviously, we've given Yi more of an opportunity as a starter than Ryan," said coach Lawrence Frank. "The change for those guys may help them both. Ryan in that he's really hungry and thirsty to play. Sitting on that bench seeing, like you really want to get out there."

Since returning from a broken pinkie, Yi has played 18 games and done squat: one double figure scoring game; pretty much one game (Portland) where he noticeably defended; 6.0 scoring average and .357 shooting over the 18.

"Too much hesitation," Yi said, admitting his confidence is somewhere between the sub-basement and Hell. "Yeah it's hard for me right now. I know what happening. I must just be professional and keep doing my stuff, doing my thing."

So the Nets go back to Anderson, who has started 19 games - the Nets went 6-of-13 in those games but did have a 4-game winning streak (as well as two five-game losing streaks).

"Coach just told me he's putting me back in the lineup," said Anderson. "It's good to hear, but it also means I need to go out and perform."

Just show a working pulse and be one up on the other guy. Even Devin Harris admitted the change was "merited."

Frank had to do something with Yi giving nothing and the race for the playoffs moving slightly beyond long-shot odds (four games out, 11 to play). And if this doesn't work, he can lead-off Jeter, bat A-Rod eighth and put Chris Douglas-Roberts in long relief.
* * *
Well, they should have Harris back although he sounded just a tad less confident about playing tonight than he did yesterday. He's wear some sort of medicated pad on the left shoulder he sprained in L.A. against the Clippers, the shoulder that knocked him out of five games (Nets went 2-3 and also lost the game where he was injured).

"Still sore," Harris said. "We'll make a decision probably at game time."
* * *
Tragic number for elimination with now eighth-place Detroit is eight. Nets play Pistons two more times, including Wednesday at the Meadowlands.
* * *
Harris will make contribution of at least $10,000 to the Big Brothers and Sisters of Bergen, Passaic and Morris Counties plus the Make-A-Wish Foundation before tonight's game. The donation comes on behalf of Harris' 34 Ways to Assist Foundation.
* * *
Useless fact of the day: Nets may need divine help to make playoffs so...Only three angels are mentioned by name in the Bible: Michael, Gabriel and Lucifer. Raphael is mentioned in another book that is not recognized by all religions.

Kerber, be a man and resign. This is getting ugly with this team and the no show fans. You need to stop having man love with frank and distance yourself from him. Write objectively like this headline:

"FIRE LIMP FRANK NOW"

Kerber it has been TWO games since your last blog!!!!! You sir are about as apathetic of a writer that I have ever seen even in comparison with Nets fans (2) or Franks coaching of an extremely young talented team. As Knicks fans we deserve better treatment on this blog site. We consistently come on here and you do not even have the decency to write a daily blog. Sir, you are an embarassment of the largest order. On to more important things. Excited another Knicks loss means one step closer to Blake Griffin. He is the TRUTH!!! Forget 2010 and lets build the franchise around this guy and lets move forward. Do the Knicks have a second round pick? If they do, is it feasible for the Knicks to get the young man who after graduating from high school he went overseas to play ball for a year? Whatcha think?
