Ranger

The HUSS Ranger was first manufactured by HUSS in 1981, and is now in approx. 32 locations worldwide. Some 3 years later, the Ranger was re-designed to form a completely new ride – The Rainbow – each ride offering a completely different sensation, although almost mechanically identical.

The Ranger looks fantastic at night with a height of 66 ft and a dazzling light display. Although only single-armed, it accommodates a huge capacity of 40 adult riders in 8 rows.

The operator has a choice of 4 ride programs or can, alternatively, operate it manually with a fast / slow orbit and varying rotation heights. The ship can also be swung 360° from a stationary position

The Ranger has a very interesting safety harness for the rider. Unlike most other upside-down rides, the Ranger does not use an over-the-shoulder restraint, but instead, a fully-automated rectangular pad which pushes against the riders stomach. (see photo) First-time riders are always taken by surprise as the safety harness closes, giving them the feeling they are about to be completely crushed! After the first few rides, I began to really like this system – it takes a while to get used to, but is quite comfortable and fairly un-restrictive to the rider’s upper body unlike most upside-down rides. HUSS, however, has not used this restraint system on any of their other inverted rides.

The ship is swung hydraulically with four 90Kw drives like the Rainbow.

There is one HUSS Ranger in Australia at Luna Park Sydney (1988 ex-road model).
