Wow, is this every great news. “Hulls,” as I like to call him, has been the voice of Atlanta sports for decades and now he is coming home. I expect him to start out offering more of a straight read of the news, but to gradually work in his own wry sense of humor and intelligence.

Let’s face it, this guy was the architect of High Five Sports and all those that have followed him in that role are just pretenders.

Gee Amy, maybe Jeff was questioning your seriousness of the topic. Maybe in his way, he was telling you to be more prepared before you pick up the phone and start getting info on your paper. Maybe he was just having a bad day. You seem to have turned it into the worst day of your life. Get over it. Jeff was great for Atlanta Sports and I feel he will be an asset to WSB. Jeff lived the Atlanta life for many, many years and we Atlantans, (Yes I am one of maybe 5 people that was actually born here) welcome him back home.

This news really makes me happy. I had the pleasure of working with Jeff for many years. Without question, he is the finest broadcaster I have ever been associated with…isn’t it wonderful to read the passionate e-mails about Jeff’s return to the Atlanta market? That’s what’s wrong with today’s talking heads in this city—-they don’t stand for anything and don’t elicit ANY emotional response from the viewers. Jeff’s first love was always radio, so get ready, he’s gonna reclaim his rightful place as the one-and-only Hullman.

As for that little whiner, Amy, keep watching Dowdle…he’s definitely your type.

It’s funny how opinions differ. I would run into Jeff on a weekly basis here in Tampa at the airpot. He was flying back to see his wife and kid in ATL.

I can honestly say, that he was very nice and always stopped and talked to me (especially when I told him that I was from Atlanta). It all depends on how you approach people.

Do it with repsect and they will respect you.

The guy was a good play-by-play announcer for the Falcons. And I remember him from back in the days of “Eyewitness News” on CBS 5. So what if he had an ego - it makes for good sportscasting.

I thought he was with WAGA longer than 1992. He was the play by play guy for the falcons as late as 2002 when he was still on WAGA.

Connect the dots people! Hullinger returns to WSB just as the Falcons radio contract is up for grabs. Falcons move to 750 and then Hullinger steps back in as play by play guy. With word on the street being that 790 will let Chcuk Smiff go after his contract ends in the spring, he joins as the color man on the broadcast.

Jeff did the morning show on WGST when Tom Hughes was in exile at White Columns. He was funny, smart, entertaining, knows sports AND news…and had ratings that certainly are better than what Hughes is pulling down now. Good luck to you, buddy. Bet they’re gearing up to put him in weekday afternoon drive.

As for connecting the dots…is Wes Durham a Z-93 hire or contracted by the Falcons? Used to be play-by-play guys were hired by the station, but it’s the sports teams/colleges that frequently own them now.

Hullinger is always welcome on my radio or tv. He was always fun to watch whether I agreed with him or not. He brings Dedicated, Determined, Dependable to WSB.

Ummm.. I guess no one on here remembers the words “Planet Radio” and the word that was most often paired with it.. DISASTER. WGST has never recovered.

And, Wes Durham? He is one of the best announcers in the country. College or pro. Hullinger was fine, and maybe the two of them would make up a pretty good booth.

As for Hullinger on news.. I think he likens himself to Dennis Miller. He will try to flex his vocabulary at the most in-opportune times. Funny, but in a bad way.

I wish him good luck, though.

I worked for the Boys and Girls clubs over the years and I have seen Hullinger’s decency with kids. He brought a couple of Falcons over to meet kids who really needed some attention. Jeff was kind and did things that helped us out all of the time. When Jeff was all over tv and radio he was never too busy to help us out. I am really happy to see him back in the ATL.

I’ll keep this short. I had no real opinion on Mr. Hullinger…until the early years of the Braves going to the playoffs. And making the World Series!

In his segment on the Braves upcoming World Series berth, he spent most of the TV time time discussing…his recent emergency trip to the dentist. This was complete with camera work of him in the dental chair, etc. After that, he casually mentioned how the Braves were excited about the Series and some canned footage rolled on the screened.

Maybe by the next time the Braves make the World Series, he can give us a filmed report of his fitting for dentures.
