Pool have confirmed they invited the 21-year-old in for a trial and that he took part in a day's training.

However, it appears at this stage that the club won't be taking their interest any further.

The frontman has not been able to force his way into PSG's first team and had been hoping for a year-long loan move to England to further his career.

But after talks with the player and his agent, the Seasiders don't think – at this stage – they'll be able to reach a deal. One man who is getting closer to making an impact at the club is Ishmel Demontagnac.

The winger has had to make do with short cameo appearances from the substitutes' bench since being signed on a one-year contract.

He has shown glimpses of promise, especially at Crewe where a terrific skilful run helped create Pool's winning goal and set up their second round tie with Premier League Wigan.

Ian Holloway has spent time working with the 21-year-old in a bid to improve his fitness and teach him how to fit into the team shape.

The Seasiders boss believes he is making progress and reckons Demontagnac is edging closer to a start.

"Fitness does come into it but it is not necessarily all about fitness with Ishmel," said Holloway. "It is about his other habits he has got.

"When the ball is nowhere near him sometimes he is not involved in his mind. Now I am working on that.

"In training yesterday he did a lot better. He was slow to start with and then he came alive.

"To play at this level, your mind has to be on the game all the time.

"When you are tired and you are having a rest you can't switch off.

"But I can see a change in him day in day out. He is getting closer and closer to my thoughts of actually starting.

"It depends who we are up against. If the opposition has got a weakness I might well throw him out there to have a go.

"But he is definitely closer to my thoughts than he was a week ago."

The Seasiders should have Ben Burgess and Stephen Crainey available against Watford today after the pair shook off groin strains.

Holloway was looking to record his first victory of the new campaign, after successive draws against Derby, Cardiff and QPR.

But he knew it would be far from easy against a Watford team that thrashed Nottingham Forest in their own backyard on Tuesday.

"I expect a very tough match," admitted Holloway. "The report on their last match at Nottingham Forest said they played very well.

"They were very up for it, closing down really well, and their two strikers played well.

"Tommy Smith and Danny Graham (signed from Carlisle in the summer and scorer of two goals already this season) are threats, so I am expecting a very tough game, like every game in this division is.

"But I believe we can go there and give a good account of ourselves and keep improving.

"The lads are trying to do what I'm asking and they are gaining in confidence and given how good our away performances were last year they should have nothing to fear."

Holloway spent yesterday working on set-pieces and says it is a side of Pool's game that must improve.

"We know two goals in three games isn't enough and perhaps a reason for that is our set-pieces have been absolutely diabolical," he said.

"I worked on them again yesterday and hopefully they will start to improve."
