Withdrawal the most likely scenario

[UPD] Andorra submit application to EBU

Mr. Enric Castellet, director of the Andorran public broadcaster RTVA is expected to take a decision concerning the country's participation or withdrawal from the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest today. As previously reported, quitting the competition is the most possible scenario for the broadcaster, given that their budget for 2010 will be cut down.

Nevertheless, although a withdrawal is very likely, the Andorran broadcaster could anyway submit their application to the European Broadcasting Union just in case the shareholders of the station change their minds and allow the country to participate in Eurovision. If finally RTVA quit, as expected, there would be no penalty for them if they withdraw their application within one month counting from this Sunday, November 13th, the deadline for applications submission set by the EBU.

Mr. Castellet has reminded that the economical difficulties are striking the broadcaster he chairs and next year's budget will not grant any funding for the Eurovision project. This is why the station's plans for 2010 do not include a Eurovision participation.

The likely decision to quit Eurovision has not been welcomed by the Andorran musicians, who argue that "the lack of money should not stop the country from participating", and also criticise the broadcaster for their entries in recent years, which are "not representative of the Andorran musical panorama".

UPDATE: Andorran broadcaster RTVA have decided to submit their application to the EBU not to dismiss the possibility to take part in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. Anyway, as it has been reported, the likelihood for Andorra to take part in next year's competition is very low owing to budget restrictions. Therefore, the most possible scenario is not to see Andorra participate in Oslo 2010.

I've voted for Andorra twice, first time for Marian van de Wal and second time for Anonymous...
I think it would be a pity not to see the litte country in Eurovision next year...

It's midnigh time!

STOP APPLICATING.

European broadcasters that haven't send their applications yet won't be able to participate in Oslo 2010. Ooooohhh!!!

I really hope that Andorra doesn't withdraw. I enjoy their songs, and it would suck not to have them around next year

@ Lina

Eurovision.tv only publish news when there is a call for songs or something like this. RTE confirmed its participation to some media but eurovision.tv didn't report nothing because RTE haven't announced any specific plans or artists interested in.
Eurovision.tv will only publish the list of participants in late December when it will be official and definitive.
About Latvia, its director revealed plans for holding Eirodziesma in Ventspils, but not confirmed participation in sensu stricto (really, he's not obliged); Lithuania said the same thing of Andorra: we'll send pre-applivation but we've not decided what we'll do at the endl.
The lack of news about Montenegro or even San Marino doesn't mean nothing: in past years, some confirmations were revealed time after the Novermber deadline, because they could be in negotiations with EBU and they might be not so indiscret like the Baltic states or Andorra about their problems inside.

@Mario, normal if that countries send aplication to EBU the official EBU site for ESC ( eurovision.tv ) must to reported it right? And what about Latvia, Lithuania and Montenegro?

@ Lina

Today is the last day to submit applications but the fact that some countries (Spain, Russia, France...) haven't confirmed it TO THE MEDIA doesn't mean by far that they haven't done it.
I'm sure that Russia for example submitted its application in summer but Channel One will not say anything about ESC 2010 until their plans will be revealed. The same for France and Spain.

@dirofreak jean philippe , yes i know, but i dont understand why they want to deside the last minit, that is against them. Anyway , general EBU rules for ESC is just in papers thats why i dont trust them and i doubt if EBU dont help some countries to make it to the final with that secret back up jury.

@Lina, nope money rules the world, so even if broadcasters don't confirm they can still do so.

When is it "today"? This news is almost 2 days long.

Why withdraw?? Every country has the potential to produce a fantastic entry ;)

They need to take a break to think about their entries and future entries.

Apparently, the Andorran broadcaster has said a preliminary YES to 2010, but if they don't find the money before the deadline, they may have to withdraw.

According to songfestival.weblog.nl they applied, but they can withdraw within a month without paying a fine. So, it is still a maybe.

" there would be no penalty for them if they withdraw their application within one month counting from this Sunday, November 13th, the deadline for applications submission set by the EBU. " Dear ESCtoday this sunday is November 15 th and not 13 th. BTW the deadline is this sunday but many countries didnt confirm they r participation yet : Montenegro, France, Spain, Russia, Lithuania and Latvia. Normal until tomorrow all that countries must to confirm they r participation or to withdraw from ESC 2010 right?

I think they have a better chance this year with juries and continuous voting from the start.

They should give it one more go and if it fails then do the eurovision every 2 years as proposed by RTVA unil they can afford it again.

Scotland a "new" country? It's a very ancient country but certainly not independent and therefore not eligible for a Eurovision participation. Likewise Kosovo is not recognised as an independent nation. It is ridiculous to talk of these countries in terms of Eurovision!

Latvia and Russia have already confirmed that they will participate 2010...

It would be nice to see them in Oslo, and a pity to see them go,but I hope they submit a cracker of an entry. 2004 and 2007 were the best we have heard from them, 2006 was pretty good (but need clothes!).

If they ever win, I expect they would team up with TVE, and host it in Barcelona (Catalonia)

Those Scotland rumors are outdated and weak
