Hensick placed on waivers

hensick

T.J. Hensick, just placed on waivers by the Avalanche. If no team claims him by noon tomorrow, he’ll go to Lake Erie of the AHL.
It just hasn’t worked out too well for T.J. this year with the Avs. Joe Sacco just hasn’t played him much. It’ll be interesting to see if a team takes him. If they do, they take his full salary off the Avs’ books. That salary is $850,000. Next year, he’ll be a restricted free agent.

Also, Scott Hannan is on the ice today for the morning skate. Obviously a good indication he’ll play tonight, but not official yet. Will know soon.

*Hannan will play

  • Nothing against the guy, but he's just not good enough to crack an NHL roster. Best of luck to him.

seeing guys like stoa and hensick who lit it up in US college hockey programs, but then arent good enough to make an NHL roster makes me nervous that we have basically stuck our future defensive fate in US college players in Shattenkirk and Cohen- I know stastny came from college too, but it still makes me nervous.

Shattenkirk is not going to make it to the NHL. Good college player. Not a true NHL prospect. Waste of a good draft pick.
  • Can't really say I'm surprised to see this, I just have to say about time and can we do the same with Budaj :D

Actually I think TJ had too much pressure placed on him from his first game with the Avs last year when the media implied he was coming up to take Joe's spot. That's too much pressure for anybody, especially a young guy, I mean look how Staz has fared with that pressure.

What happens to our salary cap if he isn't claimed?

You can't lump every college player together. And the jury's still not in on Stoa. Not even a quarter season as a pro yet. Just because he didn't make the big team out of college doesn't mean he won't at some point in the future. Same with Shattenkirk and Cohen. But don't forget they are good defensive prospects in Major Junior with Gaunce, Elliot and Barrie.

A little disappointed in this. I was hoping that he was going to make the team, after all he is from Michigan.

I saw this coming unfortunately ... he's a purely gifted skater that never found his way with the Avs.

I think someone will grab him at that salary, he's still the same Hensick. Before being drafted he said that he wanted to play for Detroit.

Regardless, he's still one of my favorite Avs, and I'll follow his story wherever he goes.

Wow, $850K! Personally, never that impressed with the guy, though he had his moments. Hope he gets picked up by someone, it'll be a win-win for everyone. With all the injuries around the league, I'm sure something will happen.

Always someone who I thought could do well, give the chance to break him in slowly. Last year (with injuries), I think he was rushed and too much was expected. This year, I think O'reily stole his spot. I really think that he'll be packaged for someone come trade time (assuming the bottom doesn't fall out of the boat like last year)
  • Kinda makes me wonder what the Avs have planned next. Are they going to bring up someone else? Make a trade, or just giving Hensick a chance to catch on some where?

Does Clark start EVERY game with a penalty or is it just my imagination?

Why don't we just drop the puck down a goal if he's going to continue this pace?
  • coswede
Where are you getting your information? Clark has had four penalties for eight minutes in 24 games.
