Polytechnic and NYU Affiliation
Two Strong Traditions. One Even Stronger Future.
The New York Board of Regents approved the affiliation of Polytechnic and New York University on July 1, 2008, creating Polytechnic Institute of NYU.
According to the New York Center for an Urban Future's report, “Engineering a Tech Sector (August 6, 2007),” the affiliation "between NYU and Polytechnic University could provide a critical spark to the city's long-standing, and largely frustrated, efforts to establish itself as a vibrant center for technological innovation."
Within the first year of the affiliation, NYU-Poly was well on its way to fulfilling its remarkable potential. Its drive to push the boundaries of what it means to be a 21st century research institution, one founded on the principle of invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship (i2e), led to a number of educational and research strides. In addition to securing several grants, NYU-Poly began a joint initiative with the City of New York to create a business incubator that will help the financial sector rebound from 2008's sharp economic downturn.
