A short drive from downtown Burlington, the Homestead offers hands-on history, spectacular scenery, and riverside picnic areas and walks. The Homestead provides a genuine slice of 18th century life, and an intimate look at Vermont's most colorful - and controversial founder.

Retreat Out of Canada: The Champlain Valley during the War of Independence

Living historians representing Continental soldiers during the War of Independence, will be presenting a living history at The Ethan Allan Homestead. Visitors will be allowed to have an exclusive opportunity to meet these historical interpreters as they portray the lives of soldiers during the summer of 1776

The public, is invited to observe these living historians as they share and explain what life was like for a Continental soldier. Knowledgeable living historians will be explaining their clothing, uniforms, cooking rations, drilling, and discussing the Canadian Campaign and the Champlain Valley during the Revolutionary War. The event, designed to celebrate the opening summer season of the Ethan Allen Homestead, is a perfect time for families, history buffs, and all others to enjoy this terrific site.
