JUST A STUNNING SUCCESS

... and a long night, by the way.  The FairTax Rally at the Gwinnett Convention Center was an amazing success.  I was wrong.  Thousands of people will show up, even on the night of the American Idol final show, to show their support for getting rid of our present anti-growth and anti-achievement tax code and replacing it with a simple national retail sales tax that allows people to save and invest without taxes, that allows businesses to invest in capital and labor without tax consequences, that would eliminate the tax compliance nightmare for tens of millions of Americans and American businesses, and that would constitute the largest transfer of power from the politicians to the people since this Republic was formed.

About 40 minutes before the rally was scheduled to begin I decided to take a peak at the crowd.  They showed me to a darkened room above the convention center floor with a wall of windows.  Friends, I couldn't believe what I saw.  Belinda and Royal were on stage entertaining an already-packed convention hall.  Six giant projection screens brought the stage close to every seat ... and every seat was filled with additional people lining the walls.  I was stunned.  These people weren't there to see me ... I've made plenty of appearances in Atlanta, and most folks know that I'm a big disappointment in person.  They were there to show their support for The FairTax.  Herman Cain joined me in that room ... saw the crowd ... and said that a revolution has been ignited.  From his lips to God's ears.

Some people really deserve thanks.  Sean Hannity dipped into his own pocket to charter a jet to come to Atlanta for the rally.  He stopped in Washington to pick up Congressman John Linder, the author of H.R. 25, the FairTax Act.  Amazing guy.  ABC's John Stossel stopped by the rally after a signing for his book "Myths, Lies and Downright Stupidity."   As a reporter for ABC News John couldn't endorse a particular tax reform proposal, but he did talk to the crowd about the abuses and absurdities under the present system.  John Hoagland from Americans for Fair Taxation addressed the crowd, as did Herman Cain.  Now there is one sensational speaker .. Herman Cain  He brought the house down more than a few times.

A special thanks to my good friends Banks & Shane.  This Atlanta-based band showed the crowd why they've been such a smashing success for over 30 years.  The entire band donated their time to the FairTax Rally.  Paul Shane wrote a FairTax song ... and the crowd loved it.  We'll get it recorded and made available for downloading!

Special thanks also to Royal, Belinda and my colleague Clark Howard for their help and participation, and to the people at my flagship station, News/Talk 750 WSB for the incredible job they did setting this monster up.  Promotions gurus Michael Dobson and Neil Williamson deserve special thanks ... as does Assistant PD Condace Pressley.  And then there's Dash.  When the traffic backed up and it looked like Sean and I weren't going to be able to get there on time ... Dash put his Long Ranger down in the WSB parking lot, picked us up, and we were there in 12 minutes.

Congressman Linder wants to take this show on the road.  I'll be anywhere we can duplicate this crowd.  In a heartbeat.  Here are just a few of the stories that appeared in local newspapers:

  • Fair Tax Rally Jams Civic Center
  • Rally for national sales tax draws overflow crowd
  • Photo Gallery
  • Video report from our local CBS affiliate
  • CAN PEOPLE BE THIS INCONSIDERATE?

Yesterday Congress quickly passed a bill that would ban protests at Military funerals...within a certain number of feet.  And who was the legislation targeted at?  Was it to reign in a bunch of Cindy Sheehan-worshiping whack jobs?  No, believe it or not, they don't even sink this low.

The bill was because of a Kansas church group.  That's right...a church group.  They were protesting at Military funerals around the country holding up signs saying lovely things like "God is your enemy" and "Thank God For IEDs."  IEDs...as in improvised explosive device.  These are the bombs Islamic terrorists in Iraq are using to kill our boys (and girls.)  These "protesters" believe that the Military deaths are a sign of God's anger at our tolerance of homosexuals.

You read it right. These scumbags are going around interrupting these very sad occasions...because they hate gays.  Picture the scene: a fallen soldier is being lowered into the ground...the 21-gun salute...maybe taps is playing.  The widow is crying into her folded American flag...and here comes these religious fanatics interrupting a sacred moment.  The person behind all this is Reverend Fred Phelps from Topeka, Kansas.  This guy has made headlines protesting people who died from AIDS.

The things people think they can find in The Bible....unbelievable.

    BIPARTISAN COVER-UP UNDERWAY

This William Jefferson thing has the whole Congress spooked.  The Feds raided this guy's office (Democrat of Louisiana, by the way) and videotaped an informant handing him $100,000 cash in a leather briefcase. They found $90,000 of the cash in Jefferson's freezer.  The other $10K? Who knows. Maybe he hit the strip clubs. Maybe he tithes on bribes.

So what's the big deal?  Apparently, there's something going on.  Republican Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert and Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi issued a joint statement yesterday.  It demanded that "the Justice Department must immediately return the papers it unconstitutionally seized."  I guess the FBI is supposed to give notice before they go poking around in a Congressional office.  They need time to shred, you know.

Excuse me, but isn't the idea here that all people in this country are subject to the law?  Where is it written that a member of congress can be free of search warrants in their offices?    And what is Dennis Hastert doing hitching his wagon to a corrupt Congressman's wagon...one who was found with a large cash bribe in his freezer?  There's more to this than meets the eye.  But I do have just one question: if the feds have to return the papers, will Jefferson have to return the $100,000?  I'm just askin.'

    MARINES MAY GO ON TRIAL

Twelve U.S. Marines may be court-martialed because of a supposed massacre of 24 Iraqi civilians that allegedly took place on November 19th.  Supposedly 7 of the dead were women and 3 were children. If you listen to Congressman John Murtha (D-Al Qaeda,) the Marines are guilty as charged.

In fact, Murtha is alleging a cover-up.  A couple reports are due...and supposedly things don't look good for the Marines in question.  Evidently one report will say the civilians were unarmed and shot in their car.

Unlike Murtha, I'm inclined to give these Marines the benefit of the doubt.  I certainly have more faith in them than I have in Jack Murtha.  But,  if and when they're charged...the media circus will ensue.  And expect the media to blame George W. Bush somehow.  Remember the template.

    REDNECK SCRAP BOOK

Do rednecks play golf? Apparently they do!  More in the Redneck Scrap Book.

    READING ASSIGNMENTS

ABC says the Speaker of the House is under investigation for corruption.  Hastert says he isn't...and now the Justice department says he isn't either.  In fact, the Speaker wants a full retraction.  Interesting times indeed!

Recently the Bush Administration sent some bucks to those terrorists in Hamas that are running the Palestinian territories.  The leader of Hamas' military wing said yesterday they were looking to fly planes into buildings, like on 9/11. Who needs enemies when you have friends like these?

These parents of Terri Schiavo are back in the news,
this time claiming that a certain drug might have 'saved' Terri.  Unfortunately, they have yet to accept that their daughter was a vegetable when she expired.  The denial continues.

Al Gore, the crown prince of the environment, does not seem to be practicing what he preaches.  One group is tracking the thousands of gallons in jet fuel the former Vice President seems to be using...as he flies all over the world.

Here's an interesting statistic.  The U.S. Border Patrol arrested more illegal aliens under Bill Clinton than they are doing under George W. Bush.  Another interesting fact: the federal government is growing faster under Bush than it did under Clinton.

The Senate voted to make English the national language...but George Will brings up a more immediate concern.  What about bilingual ballots?  Wouldn't it be a better idea to just have them in English?  Apparently the Attorney General doesn't think so.

Why are President Bush's approval ratings so low?  To find the answer, Robert Tracinski goes all the way back to September 10, 2001....before the War On Terror.  What concerned people then might just shock you.

Debra Saunders takes George W. Bush and the Republican-controlled Congress to the woodshed over the huge debt burden they have incurred, both on the books and off the books.  The result: every child born in America owes $156,000.

Recently Arizona Senator John McCain gave a speech at a school....and he was interrupted by an anti-war protester.  Ann Coulter tells us more about the person that insulted McCain.

And now part III of Thomas Sowell's series of columns on fraudulent debates...supposed "facts" pushed by the media that stretch the truth.  For instance, these proposals to give illegals the same rights as U.S. citizens would actually give them more.
