Denmark: Jens Marni speaks to Escdaily.com

Jens Marni is one of the ten participants of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix which will be held this Saturday. The Faroese singer took some time to talk to Escdaily about his participation, his career, his future and of course Eurovision.

Jens Marni is coming from the Faroe Islands and has been singing for years. He sung in several bands in the past and eventually released his solo album ‘The right way’ in 2008. The album was a big hit in the Faroe Islands and got him the awards for ‘Best male singer ‘ and ‘Best album of the year’. In the same year he warmed up for Bryan Adams when the Canadian singer visited the Islands for a concert. Now Jens will participate in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with the song ‘Gloria’, written by Noam Halby,Svend Gudikson and John Jorgensen.

Escdaily:First of all congratulations with your participation in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. Could you tell us why you have decided to take part in the Danish selection?

Jens:It was a good chance for me to come out with me and my music. I’m coming from the Faroe Islands, who belong to Denmark, and only 50.000 people live there.

Escdaily:For the people who don’t know you yet. Could you tell us how it all started for you? How did you end up in music?

Jens:Music has always been a part of me. I started as a 5 year-old on my parents sofa, with my little 4 strings guitar. The last 6 years I have made a living by playing music in the Faroe Islands.

Escdaily:What do you like the most about being an artist? And what do you consider to be the hardest thing about it?

Jens:I have a passion for music, and make a living of it is fantastic. Of course ,it’s hard sometimes, when I’m doing lots of jobs all at the same time, but thats life.

Escdaily: What do you consider a highlight or one of the most special moments of your career so far?

Jens:I’we tried a lot of things through the years, but one of the best things was when I warmed up for Bryan Adams in the Faroe Islands in 2008 and also when my album became the best album of the same year.

Escdaily:What kind of music or which artists do you like to listen to and do you see as an inspiration?

Jens: There are a lot of artists that I like. Of course there is Bryan Adams, Chris Cornell, Steve Lukhater(TOTO), John Mayer and lots of others.

Escdaily:Your MGP entry is called ‘Gloria’. Can you tell us what kind of song it is and what we can expect on stage?

Jens:It’s a rock/pop song that has a lot of energy, a lot of sound and it kicks ass. It will be big on stage!

Escdaily:What do you expect of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix yourself?

Jens: I’m not sure. It’s new for me and I haven’t heard the other songs yet but they say that the standard is high this year so I have something to look forward to.

Escdaily:What would it mean to you to represent Denmark at the Eurovision songcontest in Oslo?

Jens:It’s big for me. If I would be the winner of Dansk MGP, I would be the first person from the Faroe Islands, who wins the competition and I would make history.But it’s a big thing no matter what.

Escdaily:Have you always been a Eurovision fan? What is your favourite Eurovision song and what qualities do you think should a good Eurovision song have?

Jens:When I was younger, I did watch Eurovision a lot. And there have been a lot of changes. Now you can be surprised every year, cause of the style, and it makes it more interesting to see and hear. I remember Digilo Digiley by the Herreys from 1984.

Escdaily:Away from Eurovision , what can we expect from you in the future?

Jens: If it goes the right way for me, I will play lots of concerts, with songs from my Album “The right way”. It’s inportant for me that people can hear my music and maybe buy it if they like it.

Escdaily:Finally, do you have any message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

Jens:2010 will be a very exciting year for Eurovision. I just wanna say :”Rock’n Roll”
