One of the favourites to win the Portuguese finals in March, and already a growing fan favourite if it wins the ticket to Oslo, Catarina Pereira "Canta por mim", listen to it here and make up your own mind:

Thanks to Lena's performance, Adele's "My Same" entered the German Single Charts at No. 61 this week!
WOuld not it be nice if they gather the best musicians from all participant countries and make and international orchestra that could play all songs live in the COntest!
A good orchestra used to improve the whole thing. Take a listen to "Moi, tout simplement" (Switzerland 1993), compare the live take and the studio version and you'll see what I am talking about. On the other hand, a bad orechestra (like in Rome 1991) can ruin a great song. Sofia Vossou's "I anixi" is a good example of that. For God's sake, I hate that RAI orchestra!!!
But orchestra fits mostly the ballads, having one for "Molitva" would have been amazing! But I can't imagine up-tempo tracks like "Shady Lady" or "Hard Rock Halleluja" with orchestra, hehe.
The best of luck, Germany. I really hope with a great song you can get a good result
of the one that qualified:
The worst was Jennifer Braun - her voice isn't great and suffers from poor pronunciation.
And sorry but I don't get all the hype about Christian Durstewitz - not great vocals, he has an annoying habit of slurring words together.... and a sort of American twang to his sound. No!
The best? Pass - the others are all ok but I wouldn't say any of them stand out. The song will make a huge difference to who they should choose.
Everyone last week was just horrible. Leon and Christian were good this week so I Think one of them should win I dont much care about the rest

Although it is off topic on this thread: Nice clip, especially the end.
Again a wonderful show... For me, the only downer was that Sharyhan went through instead of Franziska...
Judging the remaining artists by their single performance - thus, this can change very fast -, it's for me:
1. Lena Meyer-Landrut
2. Leon Taylor
3. Maria-Lisa Straßburg
4. Katrin Walter
5. Christian Durstewitz
6. Jennifer Braun
7. Meri Voskanian
8. Cyril Krueger
9. Kerstin Freking
10. Sharyhan Osman
All of them are very close at the moment... So I'm really waiting for the next show...
I have to admit that the show I saw yesterday evening was a way better than the one last week. Nevertheless, all 10 candidates were great but my big favourite was Leon Tylor who sang the wonderful song "Der Weg".
Good luck Germany!
The competition was basically over after the first show. Unless Lena Meyer-Landrut completely collapses in the coming shows, there is nothing that can stop her win.
Let's wait for the moment of truth when the singers have to perform the real song for Oslo in the final show. Then I can really make a decision who is my favourite. Right now I like Christian, Cyril, Katrin, Lena and Leon (in alphabetical order) but who knows what happens when they have to perform the real song .
Meri Voskanian is by far the best singer. Unfortunately Release Me was a wrong choice in the first show. Didn't suit er voice very well
Same problem with Sharyhan Osman who I see as the second most talented performer
Cyril is very good too
Kerstin, Katrin and Jennifer are all quite average I think :/
It's a shame that Franziska didn't make it
Lena Meyer-Landrut is my big favorite to win!
The Show today was better than the last one. The show until Leon and Christian was really good. But Leon and Chrisitan were amazing. Leon with his great voice and with a very difficult song in german and Christian, he was so cool and his performance was really great. My Favourite so far are: Leon, Christian, Cyril and Lena. Cant wait until next show. Well Done, Stefan Raab.

Tastes are different. I don't like her performance. But it is mainly the fault of the song. I don't like songs in that style. I prefer more melodious songs, which the singers "sing" and not "speak". Perhaps she could sing other kind of songs well, too but I don't think she wants to change her style. And although many Germans seem to like her, I don't think that Germany would be successful with such a song at the ESC.
Leon is really great. I think he is better than Cyril. I listed my favourite performances in the order they sang in my older comment.
Overall all 10 singers really have talent. Those not in my list of favourites performances could easily be there next week. Sometimes I only didn't like the song or the song didn't suit the singer. Katrin has for example also a fantastic voice, she just needs to be less nervous on stage. Meri with another song is also much better. I heard other songs from her on youtube and there she was much better. And the same is true for the other singers. Perhaps I will like their performances next week more than the one from Cyril.
I think we have to see more of everyone. But it really wouldn't surprise me if Leon will go far in the show. But I think most of the other singers would be great for the ESC, too. I am really happy with the top 10 overall.
Maria-Lisa is my favourite so far and I wanted Franziska to qualify instead of Sharyhan who was quite average.

In contrats to Cyril, I sort of can understand the Lena hype although I hope that she won't represent us in Oslo. Anything but Leon would be a terrible mistake imo.

Just because I and some other people like Cyril, doesn't mean that there is a "hype" about him.
There is only one hype going on and that is the Lena hype! Just compare how often the videos from last week were watched on the "Unser Star für Oslo" homepage.
Lena's video has so far 375 000 viewers. Cyril's video is with "only" 70 000 videos on place two. THAT is what I call a REAL hype!

Glad that we agree again. Good night!
100% agree with Togravus about Cyril guy (probably coz I don't like singers with guitars alone on the stage), but then I still agree with him! And about orchestra, it should be decision of performer....
good luck germany. so many times they should have won the contest but missed out. maybe a better result this year
I don't get this Cyril hype. His interpretation of 'Hotel California' was quite average imo. Perhaps it is because people think that he is cute ...
On the orchestra topic
I would give the artists the choice. A lot of entries we have in ESC these days would probably sound rather lame with an orchestra, but a song like Portugal 2009 being not performed live is rather ridiculous because it loses its busker's charm.
Leon to Oslo
My favourite performances are so far those from:
Cyril Krueger
Jennifer Braun
Leon Taylor
Christian Durstewitz
By the other performances I didn't like the following things:
Kerstin Freking: her voice was a little weak
Meri Voskanian: the song didn't suit her voice
Katrin Walter: she wasn't looking very comfortable on stage, too insecure
Lena Meyer-Landrut: I really didn't like the song.
Maria-Lisa Straßburg: Also not my favourite song, but much better than the song from Lena.
Sharyhan Osman: Other songs suit her more. She has a great voice, but not as good as Whitney Houston.
That is just my opinion about the performances. It doesn't mean that those singers are bad, just that I didn't like some aspects of their performances. My favourites could change next week. So far everyone only sang one song.
Peter
Serbian, Croatian and Bosnian are almost the same, but Macedonian and Slovenian are different!
P.S. of course I'm proud coz we had some succesfull entries in Serbian lang., but I just want to try in English one year, why not?
