The Occupation Magazine was established in October 2004 by a group of Israeli anti-occupation activists who were disturbed by the growing discrepancy between the grim reality which they observed in the Occupied Territories , and the way in which it was (and is) reported in the main stream media. The ongoing colonization policy in the Occupied Territories is being misrepresented by the Israeli and US media as "fight against terror" and a "struggle for Israel's existence / security". This is while in reality, the colonization policies promote terror, and endanger the future of both nations in this country.

The aim of this website is to provide information and commentary on the ongoing developments in the Occupied Territories in Hebrew and English. The Editors of the Occupation Magazine represent a range of opinions as to the optimal solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, we are united in the belief that a viable solution must be based on the unconditional end to the Israeli military occupation, and on principles of equality, justice and mutual respect.

The website is updated daily with material selected by one of the volunteer Editors. The material includes articles selected from the Israeli, Palestinian and international media which we consider informative, as well as observations on the ground by us and by fellow activists, and reports by anti-occupation and human rights organizations. While every effort is made to supply reliable information, we do not have the means to verify every fact reported in the articles. On the other hand each of us makes an effort to keep oneself informed on the Occupation by observations on the ground, interactions with Palestinians and with fellow activists, and by reading. The Editors select commentary which they consider to be of interest to the readers, but do not necessarily agree with the contents nor are responsible for the ideas expressed in them (unless the commentary is written by the Editor herself/himself). All the articles are stored in the archive and can be accessed via the "Search" facility, or via accessing the respective sections. The website is designed to serve as a resource for students, scholars, journalists, and other people looking for information on the Occupation. We are often asked by readers what do we mean by "Occupied Territories". In our view, Occupied Territories include all the land beyond the 1967 border, which was occupied by Israel during the Six Day War - the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, and the Golan Heights. The website focuses mostly on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, because currently most of the violence takes place there. It is noted that the Gaza Strip did not cease to be occupied land as a result of Sharon's "disengagement", only the form of the Occupation changed. The Gaza Strip became a vast prison, cordoned off from the rest of the world by the Israeli army. The army continues the policy of gradual but relentless destruction of the Gaza Strip, which started in the beginning of the Al-Aqsa Intifada. It began well before the Qassam rockets on Sderot. Instead of security, it brought violence.
