2 tornadoes hit St. Louis County, officials say

Updated at 10 p.m. Monday night: ST. LOUIS COUNTY • The National Weather Service has made it official: Damage in St. Louis County on Saturday was the result of two weak tornadoes . The Weather Service sent an assessment team on Sunday to the Des Peres area, where their assessment confirmed that a small tornado touched down with winds of up to 80 mph. That tornado touched down north of Dougherty Ferry Road near Lynkirk Road and headed northwest toward West County Center. Another small tornado touched down in University City and headed northwest toward Overland area with winds up to 85 mph. No injuries were reported from the twisters. The tornadoes knocked down some power lines and trees and caused mostly minor damages to homes and businesses. The worst damage came to homes and business hit by falling trees and tree limbs. A downed electric pole forced part of Ballas Road to close while tornado sirens blared throughout the area. Meanwhile, the forecast appears to be free of thunderstorms for a few days. In the St. Louis area, the National Weather Service is calling for showers today and partly cloudy skies on Wednesday and Thursday. The high today could reach 61. Forecasters predict the high on Wednesday near 70 degrees, then 79 on Thursday.
