Community Support
Supporting Our Communities
West has a long history of charitable giving and community service in the areas where West maintains operations throughout the United States. In 1972, The H.O. West Foundation was created to honor Herman O. West, the founder of the Company.

Since that time, the Foundation has supported non-profit (501(c) (3)) organizations that serve the community, cultural, educational and health care needs in their area. The organizations the Foundation supports are in the Greater Philadelphia Area and Southeastern Pennsylvania and in the communities surrounding our plants.

The mission of the Foundation is to provide financial assistance to non-profit organizations serving the cultural, health and public service needs of the areas and communities where the Company maintains operations; to fund the Company's employee scholarship program; and to encourage financial support to education through its matching gifts to education program.

To submit a grant proposal, provide the following information:

  • The extent of services the organization or program is providing
  • A financial statement indicating the sources of funds and how those funds are dispersed
  • The future needs and services of the program over the next few years
  • Documentation of tax exempt status

Proposals should be directed to:

Mr. Richard D. Luzzi
Trustee
The H.O. West Foundation
101 Gordon Drive
Lionville, PA 19341

Meetings are held in late spring (May/June) and late fall (November/December).

Additionally, the Foundation matches, on a dollar-for-dollar basis, the funds collected from United Way Annual Employee Campaigns and the Company encourages all locations to organize and support employee campaigns.

The Matching Gifts to Education Program is designed to assist eligible employees in supporting educational institutions of their choice. The Foundation matches gifts to eligible schools (four-year and two-year colleges and graduate, professional and secondary schools within the United States) from a minimum of $25 to a maximum of $1,000 per employee, per calendar year.

The Scholarship Program awards up to seven scholarships per year to high school seniors who will be attending college the fall after graduation. The scholarship may only be applied towards tuition cost up to $2,500 per year for up to four years. The scholarship is based on academic excellence and extra-curricular school or community activities. This scholarship is only available to active employees’ children.
