The 150-year-old pipe organ at Baltimore's St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church got a much-needed overhaul. After six months of work, the improved organ was ready for its debut during Christmas Masses at the church on North Calvert Street. Above, organist Tim Murphy tries out the refurbished instrument.
Hundreds of Jewish volunteers turned out Friday for a day of volunteering all across the area - packing and delivering goody bags, writing letters to soldiers, and donating blood, and raising money for charity. The event usually is held on Christmas Day, but to avoid a conflict with the Jewish sabbath, it was moved a day earlier this year.
