Addison announces candidacy for Senate

addison Magnolia ISD Trustee and local businessman Glenn Addison will announce his candidacy for the U.S. Senate on Feb. 5 at 4 p.m. at Magnolia Funeral Home. He will be running as a Republican.

Addison made the decision to run for the Senate last fall when he says he became burdened with current government officials and the broad generalizations they present to Americans.

Addison says his specific ideas on how to solve issues of the U.S. is what sets him apart from most current officials.

He expressed that he has created detailed plans in an effort to solve issues in the U.S. such as, balancing the federal budget, Social Security reform, Medicare reform and securing the southern border.

Addison said that the U.S. debt is “out of control.” He believes the country may be addicted to debt and aims to make large cutbacks in order to “save the system.”

He addressed the topic of Social Security benefits and Medicare as starting points to helping cut back on the deficit.

“I am calling on Americans to make sacrifices,” he said. “I believe in giving hand ups and not hand outs.”

He said he is frustrated with the lack of cutbacks that have been made.

“Somebody has got to look people in the eyes and tell them we are spending ourselves into bankruptcy,” he said. “I believe the future of our country is at stake.”

Addison also said that protecting the southern border is an issue he has created a plan for.

According to Addison, America has spread itself thin across other countries and the U.S. is unable to protect its own border.

“We’ve stuck our nose into too many countries’ business,” he said. “I don’t think we need to be the world’s policemen.”

In addition to bringing military back to the U.S., Addison has a new course of action for immigrants to access the country.

He suggested a step to protecting the country is bringing jobs back to the U.S.

If elected, his first objective is to forge a coalition with all elected senators.

In addition to his specific plans for Senate, Addison said he plans to only serve one term if elected and take no pension.

“Most Americans are tired of career politicians,” he said. “The founding fathers wanted citizen legislators.”

Addison has lived in magnolia since 1972. He owns Magnolia Funeral Home and Addison Funeral Home and two cemeteries. In addition to being a MISD Trustee for 14 years Addison is also a member of the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce, Magnolia Parkway Chamber of Commerce and The Greater Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce.
