First foreign geisha opens kimono store

Sayuki debuted in 2007 as the first white geisha in Japanese history in the Asakusa district and worked as a geisha for more than three years. Now she has put her knowledge of kimono into play by opening her own kimono shop.

Sayuki no Kimonoya”has all kinds of new and recycled kimono available  for men and women, but will be especially helpful for people who have never worn kimono before and do not know how to wear it.

Sayuki has introduced one of the secrets of the geisha world into her shop – a special obi that looks beautiful but is very easy to put on.

At the shop we can help you choose a complete outfit, put it on for you so you can wear it around Asakusa and wear it home, and also teach you how to do it yourself in just ten minutes or so.

If you choose a recyled silk kimono and obi it can cost as little as 20,000 yen for a whole set that you can take home and wear by yourself.

The shop is in the lane parallel to Nakamisedor on its left side if you are facing the temple, right in front of the well-known Umezono sweet shop.
