Inspired by her hit single 'Born This Way,' Yankovic's 'Perform This Way' video, which he directed himself, is a spoof of Mother Monster's entire career. To that end, Yankovic has his head superimposed on the body of a much younger woman and dons a meat dress and porcupine hat. He even makes light of Gaga's alleged and often-denied copying of Madonna by featuring a Madge doppelganger singing 'Express Yourself.'
As Spinner recently reported, there was a bit of controversy surrounding the release of 'Perform This Way.' Yankovic had submitted the lyrics to Gaga's camp, which subsequently denied the parody. "This was mystifying to me," Yankovic said on his website.
"At this point she has the lyrics ... and hopefully she is familiar with her own song ... and the parody is basically her music ... with my lyrics. It really shouldn't be that hard to decide -- based on having the lyrics right in front of you -- whether or not you'd be 'okay' with a parody. But, alas, we'd been given an ultimatum. If she didn't hear it, she wouldn't approve it."
The debacle ended soon after the news went viral, with Gaga declaring that having a song parodied by the master is a "rite of passage" for pop stars. Watch a preview of the 'Perform This Way' video below and check back Monday, June 20 for the full clip. Yankovic's newest record, 'Alpocalypse,' will hit record stores on June 21 via Jive.
