Provincial Motto
Fortis et Liber, “strong and free”. The motto is used together with the Coat of Arms on seals, shields and banners.
Provincial Colours
The blue represents the sky and gold/deep yellow represents the prairies.

Flag
The flag shows the Shield of the Arms of Alberta on a blue background. The flag is proportioned twice as long as it is wide, with the shield positioned in the center at 7/11 of the width of the flag.

The Government of Alberta logo has been given a fresh, bold, new look. It has been designed to complement the new Alberta Brand and help promote easy public recognition of everything the government does. It is an expression of our personality, strength, ideals and commitment to the people of Alberta.

How Alberta Got Its Name
When the Provincial District of Alberta was created in 1882, the Marquis of Lorne was Governor General of Canada. He named the district in honour of his wife, Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and her consort Prince Albert. Alberta became a province in 1905.
Official Song
Alberta
The official song pays musical tribute to the province’s geography, industry, history and cultural diversity. Alberta was composed by Mary Kieftenbeld as part of a contest to find an original official song in time for the province ’s Centennial in 2005.
