New Delhi: The CBI has said that there is no evidence that suggests Kolkata-based graphics designer Rizwanur Rehman was kidnapped the day he was found dead.

The CBI interrogated an eyewitness, Indranil Ghosh, who had made the startling claim that Rizwanur was kidnapped on a regional TV channel.

Ghosh had claimed he had seen Rizwanur being abducted from a cinema hall by unknown men. He had also claimed to sent an anonymous mail to the CBI.

"Rizwan was sitting in a taxi. A green car came and parked itself next to Rizwan’s car. The doors opened and Rizwan was dragged into the green car," Ghosh had claimed.

Ghosh maintains that he remained silent all this while because he felt insecure. He also claims that one of the abductors is a real estate developer in South Kolkata. CBI picked up Ghosh for interrogation from the studio of the channel to which he had made the revelation.

The state CID reportedly concluded earlier that Rizwan's death was a case of suicide. Evidence available with the CBI so far also points in a similar direction despite the fact that there is a strong case of abetment to suicide against some of the accused.

The CBI has now said it will act against anyone who tries to mislead the investigation.

Rizwanur was found dead under mysterious circumstances on September 21.

He had married Priyanka Todi, the daughter of an influential businessman Kolkata-based businessman.

Sources in the CBI had told CNN-IBN that Priyanka's father, Ashok Todi may have faked a heart attack to bring his daughter back home. Priyanka left Rizwanur and went to her parents only after she was told that her father had suffered a heart attack.

The CBI has already filed a murder case against Rizwanur's father-in-law, Todi.

CBI investigators believe it was a lie. CBI sources in Kolkata have told CNN-IBN that the investigators are now collecting medical documents regarding Ashok Todi's health.

Meanwhile, Rizwan's family has filed a case against the Judicial Inquiry Commission constituted by the state government to probe the mysterious death.
