College of Arts and
Sciences (CAS)
The mission of the College of Arts and Sciences is to provide students with an intellectual, cultural and scientific foundation for academic and professional education. Its programs are designed to develop and inspire the intellectual and creative potential of students and to encourage them to conceptualize, reflect and act.
The programs offered in CAS are English language and literature, international studies, mass communication, biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, mathematics, English/Arabic/English translation and interpreting, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. CAS offers courses within these programs in the following areas: Arabic, biology, chemistry, cultural studies, education, English, environmental science, geography, history, international studies, linguistics, literature, mass communication, mathematics, philosophy, physics, political science, psychology, sociology, statistics, translation, women's studies and writing studies.
CAS prepares students to:
- master written and oral expression in English
- master quantitative reasoning, scientific inquiry
and method
- develop the critical ability to analyze and synthesize
data and information
- examine the many varied aspects of Islamic, Western
and other cultures
- build an understanding of moral and ethical dimensions.
These skills and this knowledge are the foundation
for individual and collective life-long decision making.
Graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences will
be prepared to achieve their personal and professional
aspirations and well qualified to pursue graduate studies.
