The X Factor” MARKS ITS SPOT!

FOX PICKS UP HIT SERIES FOR SECOND SEASON

FOX has ordered a second season of unscripted series The X Factor, it was announced today by Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

“I am absolutely thrilled with the news,” said Simon Cowell. “I have loved making the show and I want to thank FOX, our sponsors and most importantly, the fans for supporting The X Factor.”

The X Factor is a monumental success,” said Darnell. “It’s won every night it’s been on the air, the talent is phenomenal, the live shows are spectacular and picking it up is a complete no-brainer. Simon and his team have done an incredible job with the show, and I’m absolutely thrilled to bring back The X Factor for another fantastic season.”

Over the course of the 20 hours that have aired, The X Factor has emerged as the No. 1 reality series on broadcast television this fall and is outperforming returning hits like “Survivor” by +27%, “Dancing with the Stars” by +38%, “Amazing Race” by +47% and “The Biggest Loser” by +104%. In addition, The X Factor is one of the top three new series and one of the top ten shows overall this season. Averaging more than 13 million viewers, The X Factor has significantly improved FOX’s year-over-year time period performance on Wednesday and Thursday nights among total viewers by +78% and +38%, respectively, and among Adults 18-49 by +37% and +41%. Additionally, thanks to The X Factor, FOX is now No. 1 among Adults 18-49 on Thursday nights for the first time in the network’s history.

Tonight, for the first time this season, fans of The X Factor will be able to vote for their favorite Top 12 Finalists, including: Girls – Melanie Amaro, Rachel Crow and Drew; Boys – Astro, Marcus Canty and Chris Rene; Over 30s – LeRoy Bell, Stacy Francis and Josh Krajcik; and Groups – InTENsity, Lakoda Rayne and The Stereo Hogzz. With the help of their mentors, Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and L.A. Reid, the finalists have been training hard for their LIVE performances, airing tonight Wednesday, Nov. 2 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. Don’t miss the Top 12 as they battle it out for America’s votes, The X Factor title and a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music.

    Ughhh….

  2. Alex C

Tired of these music shows so much.

  3. Julia

But I thought Fox was completely disappointed! That’s what everyone in the media and comments here told me.

  4. Baqinardo

    Double Ughhh…

  5. Remote Patrolled

Not a surprise – but great news nonetheless

Format needs some tweaking for next season – but X Factor is already 10 times more entertaining than the last season of Idol!

Will be interesting to see how the next batch of live eps rate

  6. Danny

    Sigh

  7. Riff Rafferty

The fact that FOX had to shell out make-goods for this show is a testament to what greed-mongering whores they are.

“The X Factor is a monumental success,” said Darnell. “It’s won every night it’s been on the air.

Really. I recall Modern Family winning the night it premiered.

  9. Vance

Liam, yeah, that. Modern Family has punched The X-Factor where it hurts every time that they have gone up against each other.

  10. Jonathan891727

@Liam What Darnell means is that between 8-10pm, X Factor’s averages have been higher than any other network’s averages. So saying it’s won every night is technically true.

X-Factor is another reality CRAP , do we really need another Musical reality ?

  12. Geoff Peterson

Oh, come on, no, not that, American Idol was enough.

Let’s look at the bright side : with cheap crap like X Factor, maybe it’ll allow them to let Fringe have its fifth season.

I expected it was going to get renewed, so this comes as no surprise. I enjoy watching the X-Factor though, so I’m glad it was renewed. It’s a lot better than American Idol right now too.

Sucks for the haters, but seriously, no one is making you watch it if you don’t want to.

  14. OldMan

Not only Modern Family but Big Bang Thurs @ 8?

No surprise the Reality King would renew it, but how much did Simon kick in for the renewal?

Triple Ugh & a double ONO! the singing comp’s dredge on!

  15. Sid

Great, another Season of American Idol 2.0

Simon Cow is lucky FOX gave them a second chance.

  16. DonJ1973

I’ve enjoyed the show so far, but I definitely think the format needs some tweaking. I wonder if FOX is slowly grooming X Factor to be the eventual replacement for American Idol.

The renewal was a no brainer. While the ratings are nowhere near American Idol’s, they have definitely improved FOX’s performance this Fall.

  17. Noname_Rex

It’s amazing to me how many people HATE this news. :P :D Which is nice of course! :)

  18. lisa

This show is awful as Fox schedule…

  19. JeffinChicago

I just threw up. No surprises for sure but it keeps that bitch, Simon Cowell from bitching even more. I think competing networks might smell some fresh meat in X-Factor down the road; it was not nearly as formidable of an opponent as initially feared.

  20. JR35

    Stunned. Just. Stunned.

    :)
