Keleti, Nyugati, Déli

There are three major train stations in Budapest. Déli pályaudvar which is the biggest train station on the Buda site, Nyugati pályaudvar which is the biggest train station and Keleti pályaudvar which is the most frequented train station in Budapest.
For international trains I would start looking at Keleti pályaudvar as there are the most international trains leaving and arriving if you are going to the west. For trains leaving and arriving from the east the Nyugati pályaudvar is the right to look for. 

Keleti Pályaudvar

Most international trains arrive and leave at Keleti train station. The trains coming from western countries therefore have to go through the whole city to reach Keleti railway station. The railway station can be reached with Metro M2. For a better orientation even though it is unfailable we give you a picture of Keleti pályaudvar.

Nyugati Pályaudvar

The Nyugati train station is the station for domestic trains. Most trains here are going to the outskirts and smaller cities of Eastern Hungary. The Nyugati train station can be reached with Metro M3. You cannot miss the Nyugati pályaudvar but nevertheless we offer you a picture:

Déli Pályaudvar

The Déli train station is covering the domestic western part of Hungary as well as some Internetional trains. The station is very rotten and ugly. Déli pályudvar can be reached with Metro M2. Deli pályaudvar is the biggest train station on the Buda side and every taxi driver knows but for a better orientation we give you a picture od Déli pályaudvar.

    Yesterday a group of us were returning from Budapest to the uk. We went to the main station to catch a train to the airport. The staff were not very helpful and the one of the girls in the ticket office just refused to serve me. We eventually bought our tickets for 320 huf then went to find the 1203 train. After a few enquiries we were directed to a train and we boarded. After waiting 30 minutes we asked again and was told that the train we were on was not the 1203 but the 1223. Eventually the train left. After a short time into our journey a ticket collector came into our compartment and examined our tickets. She informed us our tickets were no good for that train and told us to get off the train. We could not make her understand about our mistake and she then informed us it would cost us another 500 huf for the right ticket which we paid as we had to get to the airport on time.
    The train experience was not pleasant and was in stark contrast to the rest of our stay in Hungary.

      Dear Brian,

      I feel really sorry for you and your friends. I have heart a lot about bad customer care at the train stations and refusal of work.
      I used the train once down to Lake Balaton and it worked perfectly fine so I can’t complain about my experience but as I said I heart a lot about it even from Hungarians who can make themselves understand.
      Sad but I hope you enjoyed your stay. Next time get an airport transfer it’s a bit more expensive but more comfortable and you can be sure to buy the right ticket and not have problems.

    I would like to book train ticket from budapest to prague in advance the trip. but it is very expensive in the eurorail.com. And i fail to make transaction on the http://www.mav-start.hu/ .

    Well Hello there ,
    I am coming to Budapest on the 22nd of april by train from the Keleti station.And I need to go from Keleti train station to Nyugati train station to take a train to Debrecen. Apart from a taxi which is too expensive for me is there a cheaper way to go from one station to another and if yes could you please let me know the exact way? Thanks
