A Proclamation
Whereas, the creation and presentation of newly composed music is fundamental to the history of Vermont and provides a basis for continuing growth of educational opportunities, progress in our cultural leadership and breakthroughs in new technologies; and
Whereas, local composers create music that is central to Vermont’s individuality as reflected in our communities; and
Whereas, a mixed, innovate and dynamic new music climate contributes to the decision to visit and settle in Vermont; and
Whereas, Vermont has shown leadership in the creation and presentation of new music, as revealed by its high proportion of new composers and presentations of new music; and
Whereas, the Consortium of Vermont Composers is dedicated to the preservation of Vermont’s rich history on the 250th anniversary of Governor Benning Wentworth’s groundbreaking charters that led to the creation of Vermont;
now, Therefore, I, Peter Shumlin, Governor, do hereby proclaim A.D. 2011 as
Year of the Composer
in Vermont, and encourage Vermonters to celebrate our state’s rich cultural heritage
by supporting locally composed music.
