Some of us keep up with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu around here, and if you do too, you may find their review scores to be of some interest. This list caught my eye over at Kotaku, which shows a list of their highest rated PS3 titles of 2008 (you can see the full list after the jump). Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was sitting pretty on the top of the list with a perfect score of 40, just beating out Grand Theft Auto IV with a 39 and LittleBigPlanet with a 38.
For those of you with a nose for imports, you may also be interested to see Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! highly rated with a 37, a Sega game which involves real life legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. Political intrigue, historical drama -- sounds like just my cup of tea.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see a western game so close to the top, even if it's GTAIV, which is a good game, but had too many annoying game-play elements to be one of the top games of the year in my book.
Also, everyone needs to buy this game. Please resist the urge to buy used, too, as only new sales count towards NPD and the game has sold poorly thus far.
but no seriously MGS4 was great, just not as much as leap as part 3 was from part 2.
and wtf, where is Fallout 3 or Dead Space? Were those not released in Japan? Am I now going to have to start feeling guilty instead of jealous?
I found it new for 25 euros. I felt so happy when I saw that. =P
