Story:

Bullet Raja (Raviteja) is an orphan who makes out a living by stealing and other wrongdoings. His life turns upside down when he fall in love with Swetha (Taapsee). Her fiancée, who is a ferocious criminal kills him. After an interesting encounter with Yama Raja (Prabhu), Bullet Raja becomes home minister. How and what happens next is left out to your imagination.

Analysis:

The story of this film not anymore new to our audience as it was a time tested one. Right from Late NTR to Chiranjeevi to Jr. NTR most of them tried and tested this formula. A socio fantasy with Yamalokam backdrop has been proved successful and it is Raviteja’s turn to tease Yama Raja.

Although the storyline is predictable, the director tried to make it interesting by adding political angle to it. However he didn’t get the screenplay right. The film has too many ups and downs in the narration. Subplots were not properly developed.

Heroine goes missing for more than an hour and that shows that director failed to get all the elements in balance. Raviteja did his best to keep the flow moving. Despite all his efforts Daruvu is a letdown in terms of entertainment. It is too loud for our tastes.

Performances:

Raviteja gave an energetic performance. He was a treat to watch in the role with grey shades for some time. His dances and antics will please fans. Taapsee was okay. Prabhu was neat as Yama. Jayasudha, MS Narayana, Sayaji Shinde and others were fine. Brahmanandam provides comic relief as dance master Vidya Balan.

Technicalities:

Vijay Antony’s music was loud on ears. Tunes were not catchy. Background score was the biggest drawback. Dialogues were average. Cinematography is good and Editing is adequate. Graphics were okay and Art department complemented it well. Director Shiva failed to make the best use of Raviteja’s talent and energy. Had the character was etched well Raviteja would have taken it to the next level. Director messed the script up.

Final Word:

If you are looking for Raviteja’s film without much logic and story, Daruvu may appeal to you. On the entertainment front it fails to deliver the goods.

Daruvu Movie Rating: 2.5/5
