ANAHEIM – Corey Perry deflected a pass by Ryan Getzlaf past Coyotes goalie Jason LaBarbera with 5:37 left, and Jonas Hiller made 36 saves as the Anaheim Ducks beat Phoenix, 3-2, on Sunday night at the Honda Center.

Cam Fowler scored his first NHL goal, Toni Lydman also scored, Perry added an assist, and Bobby Ryan had three assists to help Anaheim improve its record to 2-3-1.

The Ducks had a two-goal edge against the Coyotes, but made things interesting by giving up goals to Scottie Upshall and Eric Belanger in the third period.

The Coyotes, coming off a 2-1 overtime loss to Detroit at home on Saturday night, dropped to 1-2-1.

Fowler opened the scoring early in the second period, firing a wrist shot from just inside the blue line that hit the far post and careened into the net. The 18-year-old defenseman, playing his sixth game after being drafted 12th overall this year, left minutes later after taking a blow to the head.

Fowler had to be helped off the ice after he went crashing down and his head was pinned between the boards and Coyotes forward Shane Doan's knee. No penalty was called on the play and Fowler was evaluated in the locker room and ruled out a short time later.

The Ducks padded their advantage in the second when Lydman took a backhanded pass through the crease from Ryan and beat LaBarbera, who made 32 saves in his first start of the season.

Upshall scored his second goal of the season at 1:01 of the third period to pull Phoenix to within 2-1, and Belanger made the score 2-2 at 11:19.

The Coyotes had several decent chances to tie the score in the game's final moments, but Hiller made some key saves, including back-to-back stops on wrist shots by Coyotes forward Radim Vrbata and defenseman David Schlemko.

A hooking penalty called on Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle with 46 seconds left zapped Phoenix's bid to tie the score before the final horn.

Tied 2-2 late in the third period, Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf took a feed from Bobby Ryan and skated the puck up the left wing. Once in the Phoenix zone, Getzlaf slid a pass to Corey Perry, who gently redirected the puck under Coyotes goalie Jason LaBarbera with 5:37 left in the game.

"Bobby made a great play in the defensive zone," Perry told the Ducks website. "He battled for the puck and made a great play to get it to Getzy. The two of us were just trying to get to the net as fast as we could. Getzy found a way to get it through and I got a stick on it."

• Captain Shane Doan ended an 11-period point-less drought to start the season when he assisted on Scottie Upshall's goal early in the third period. He added an assist on Eric Belanger's goal later in the third period. Doan finished the game with seven shots on goal and three hits.

• Center Vernon Fiddler won 16 of 20 faceoffs.

• Center Martin Hanzal suffered a lower-body injury in the second period and did not return.

• Defenseman Ed Jovanovski skated in warm-ups but was scratched from the lineup at the last minute because of a minor upper-body injury. He is listed as day-to-day.

• Forward Ray Whitney did not play for a second straight game because of an upper-body injury. He is listed as day-to-day.

• Enforcer Paul Bissonnette made his season debut. He played 2:33 and made one hit. Meanwhile, forward Petr Prucha was a healthy scratch.

• The Coyotes will not practice on Monday. They will return to work Tuesday and Wednesday at Jobing.com Arena. Those practices are closed to the public. Phoenix's next game is on Thursday vs. Los Angeles at Jobing.com Arena. The puck drops at 7 p.m. (Arizona time). The game can be seen on Fox Sports Arizona and/or heard on XTRA Sports 910 (AM).
