Ngātokowaru Marae - Hokio, Levin

Tēnā koutou Ngāti Pareraukawa.

Welcome to our website. We are making every effort to maintain our website and keep it interesting.

We have set up a document bank which includes interesting historical documents such as the evaluations and annual reports for Te Huarahi o te Ora. You will find our Hapū Plan there and photos too.

In June we will celebrate Matariki - the shortest day of the year is the 21st June. Then a new year begins.

ePānui are sent out monthly. If you have information to include, let us know. To find out what's new, go to the next page - pitopito kōrero. Also check out the updated Te Huarahi o te Ora section.

Note important dates on the calendar. Events happening at the marae are in red, iwi hui in black and other hui in green.

Come to the marae on the 24th June any time from 9.30 a.m. to help clean up the Dining Room, begin an inventory and a wish list of equipment!

Iwi Hui - There will be a hui-a-iwi at Raukawa marae on Sunday 1 July at 2 p.m. to advance the planning and preparation for our Waitangi Claims. Iwikatea and Whatarangi have sent a panui and called us to attend the hui.

Ngātokowaru Marae is the home of Ngāti Pareraukawa. It is nestled on the south bank of the Hokio Stream, about a kilometre west of Lake Horowhenua towards Te Moana-o-Raukawa. The whare tupuna, Ngātokowaru, was completed early in 1978 and opened by Ngāti Toa Rangatira in March 1978. The dining room, Pareunuora, has undergone several rebuilding stages since 1981. The new kitchen will be completed in May 2012.

A new ablution block was completed in 2005. The original homestead section is south of the marae atea, and has the homestead, Te Patai, sited on it. The building was moved there from Levin, to house the Kohanga Reo, named Kahuitara, during the late 1980s and early 1990s. A double garage on the marae is used as a rangatahi room for our Te Huarahi o te Ora programme.
