Rt. Hon. Dame Janet Smith
The Rt. Hon. Dame Janet Smith was appointed a High Court Judge in 1992 (and received the customary appointment as a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire), and became the fourth woman to be promoted to the Court of Appeal in 2002.

She was appointed Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University in 2003 until 2009. President of Personal Injuries Bar Association 2009-present. Chairman Buxton Arts Festival 2007-present.
Th Rt. Hon. Dame Janet Smith was awarded Hon.LLD from Manchester Metropolitan University 2002 and Lancaster 2005.
