Football players at south suburban Homewood-Flossmoor High will be the first in the state to face mandatory drug testing if their coach has his way.
Football coach John Wrenn has given District 233 a proposal that would require all athletes to agree to submit to testing.
"There is a drug problem, no doubt about it. The only way to fight it is to have testing," Wrenn said Friday.
The board will vote on the proposal Aug. 15.
"It is my suspicion" that testing will be approved, District 233 Supt. Edward Rachford said.
Rachford and Wrenn predicted most football players' parents will support it.
