Lyre is a project to design and build a Free/Open hardware audio player (DAP) and recorder, for use with Rockbox firmware. Read more about Lyre here.

Status

  • We are developing a prototype that can be relatively easy assembled at home by us in a DIY fashion;
  • We are working closely with Opendous and we are using his Open Hardware i.MX233 ARM9 that runs at 454MHz;
  • We plan to start selling the first working Lyre DAP on March 2011, for 200€.

Characteristics of Lyre

  • i.MX233 ARM9 32bits @ 454MHz
  • 32MBytes SDRAM
  • low power, black and white LCD, Nokia 5110 clone, 84X48 pixels
  • audio IN and OUT
  • 6 users buttons
  • 2 memory card: 1 uSDCard from where system boots and 1 SDCard
  • USB mini (for operation as USB Mass Storage Device)
  • Operates from USB or Li-ion battery, and charges the battery when connected to USB
  • JTAG connection for debugging
  • 3D printed enclosure
