2 boaters rescued near New Smyrna Beach
The Coast Guard is urging boaters to monitor weather conditions after rescuing two people near Smyrna Beach whose canoe capsized.
Authorities say 20-year old Caleb Kraft and 25-year-old David Butts were rescued Friday morning after calling the Coast Guard Station Ponce Inlet using their cell phone.
The two were found standing on concrete pilings under a bridge. They were not injured, and only one of them had a life jacket.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Richard Rivas says boaters and swimmers need to check weather conditions before they decide to go on the water because of the small craft advisory in effect as Hurricane Sandy approaches the Atlantic coast.
