Valeri Nistratov. Biography

Valeri Nistratov was born in Moscow in 1973.

He became interested in Photography during his childhood.

In 1990 Valeri was employed as a photographer by the Za Kommunizm newspaper of Schelkovo, Moscow region.

From 1991 to 1993 he worked as a news photographer covering the dramatic events of the fall of The USSR for foreign agencies.

In 1994 he reconsidered his photography career and chose the path of a documentary photographer. When working on his personal projects, Valeri Nistratov travels much across Russia, the former CIS, Afghanistan, Mongolia and China.

The main focus of Valeri Nistratov’s photographic research is on the psychological state of man, his behaviour in society and his interaction with the environment.

Valeri’s photographs have been exhibited in Russia, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the USA, Mexico, South Africa, Japan, China. They have been published in Time, The New York Times, Dia Siete, NZZ, WOZ, Le Monde Diplomatic, OjoDePez.

Valeri Nistratov is one of the most notable of the few modern Russian photographers who abide by the traditions of classic documentary photography.
