“Design is a problem-solving activity. Thinking is the application of intelligence to arrive at the appropriate solution to the problem.”
Lois Danziger was born on November 17, 1923 in New York City. Danziger studied variety arts in high school and in Federal Art Project classes between 1938-1941. He did apprenticeship at printing firm and silkscreen printers during school vacation. After he served in military, he studied graphic designer under Alvin Lustig in 1947. A year later he worked, designing layouts for Esquire magazine, and studied at New School for Social Research with Alex Brodovitch.
In 1949, Danziger established a design and consultation practice in Los Angeles. In 1963, he taught advertising design for 9 years at the Art Center School.
The poster design for American painting from the Metropolitan of art, he just showed 2 elements, brush and sketch of American flag, into the poster. Not only create curiosity but also communicate really well to the viewer. The simplest is the hardest solution to design but Danziger made look like effortless. His mentioned “I am concerned with finding an image that is visually strong and aesthetically gratifying yet so pertinent to the idea that it becomes difficult to separate form from content.” He cares much about quality than quantity, he preferred to do fewer projects and get control over production of each piece. “Designing is a source of much satisfaction and many frustrations, but I have always felt that it makes one useful and very special-and that of course provides the greatest satisfaction.”His quality of his work can be seen below from the corporate identity, advertisements, book covers, posters, and packaging design.
