sassy water

Feeling sassy? I am.

I found this brilliant, brilliant idea on Sitno Seckanovia via my favorite website ever.... drumroll please... Pinterest! How did I ever survive without it? A place to ooooh and awww over hundreds of mind-boggling ideas... A place to bookmark and easily organize anything I stumble across online...  AHHHHHHH!!!

Let's just say I spend way too much time on there.

Anyways... sassy water. (Don't you love the name?) Rumored to help you maintain a flat belly, lemon and water fuse overnight to create a natural detox, helping to flush impurities out of your system. The cucumber lends a cool, refreshing flavor while the mint gives it a bit of a snap.  The original recipe had fresh ginger, but I didn't have any and I still really liked the result.

I like to make a batch and divide it among a few ball jars so I can take it to work or with me on errands.  Go ahead! Make it! Embrace your inner sassiness.

Sassy Water

Adapted from Sitno Seckanovia

Ingredients:
2 lemons
1/2 cucumber
10-12 mint leaves
3 quarts water

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Chill Time: Overnight or 8 hours
Yields: 10-12 glasses

Method:

1. Slice cucumber and lemons.  Place in the bottom of the pitcher.   Toss in mint leaves. Add water

2. Chill overnight or for at least 8 hours.

Update - September 19, 2012

A lot of you have asked about how I use Sassy Water and the results that I see. So here is a bit more about how I use it each week. I drink about 3 batches a week and I make it in a gallon pitcher. You could make more... The recipe didn't orginate on a SSL and I've read online that some folks drink a gallon a day and are fine. I switch the fruit every time I make a new batch.

I combine it with a low carb/high protein diet and 3-4 exercise routines a week, so I feel like it does help me lose weight but it doesn't stand alone. Personally, I can tell a difference when I am drinking it... I feel more hydrated and I retain less water weight.  Also, after a weekend when I blow off my diet, I feel back to normal faster if I am drinking sassy water.

I never use it to replace meals, so please consult a doctor first if you are planning on doing that.  Also, some of you have asked me how it affects medication.  Again, that would be a question for your doctor.  I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice. Just my personal experience. :)

How often to you drink it during the day, week, etc. And what did you eat during the days you drank this?

February 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCarly

@ Carly - I drink a glass first thing on waking up (before coffee) and try to drink about a pitcher a day. I just eat healthy whole foods... lots of greens (kale, spinach), protein, and limited sugar. (I don't eat gluten, so carbs are limited too. I do post a lot of sweets, but my rule is to save those for the weekend.) Of course, I exercise too... 3-4 times a week. I'm not a nutritionist, but I def see results even after a few weeks. Hope that helps!

What size is the pitcher you use? I think this is a great idea and can't wait to try it!!

February 13, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterChristine

Nevermind!!! Obviously big enough to hold 3 quarts of water :)!!

February 13, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterChristine

I didn't have fresh mint...so I made a "tea bag" out of crushed dried mint...*fingers crossed it tastes good still*

February 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRandah

@ Christine - Yes! 3 quarts :)

@ Randah - It think that would work. Let me know how it turns out cause that might be a bit cheaper than constantly buying fresh mint. I really should grow some...

My tea bag didn't work :( I have re-filled my pitcher like 3 or 4 times without replacing the cucumbers and lemons and I can still REALLY taste the cucumbers and lemons. I'm sure if I had mint, same would go for that.

Made this when I woke up this morning, and have it waiting in the fridge. I did some research on other sites about sassy Water, and the original recipe calls for fresh grated ginger and spearmint leaves. I'm doing this recipe first though to test the waters. Thanks for sharing!

Love, Love, Love this water!!! I am not a water drinker at all and when I tried this I was truly addicted! Thank you so much for sharing :)

Just made it myself, I can't wait to try it tomorrow!!! While it might taste just fine without it, I think the fresh ginger is essential for the detox and healing properties. I am wondering about adding fresh celery.. has anyone tried that?

April 10, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLeslie N

Just made it!! I used spearmint...So, can I just refill it with water? How many times?

April 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRoss

Hey! A good way to avoid the high cost of buying fresh mint is to grow it!!! It wants to live and will take over where ever you put it.....a pot or the ground! Just buy a tiny little bit at a store, plant it and then you will be amazed!!! I am so excited to try this recipe!!! Thanks!
