On The Record With Escape The Fate

We go on record and behind the scences with Escape the Fate to talk about their latest self-titled release, and their debut on  DGC/Interscope.

Congrats on your latest self-titled album! It’s been out since November and it’s getting great reviews. In fact, Outburn called it “a modern day masterpiece” – do you feel like this album is your personal masterpiece?
Wow! I really appreciate a comment like that, and really love OUTBURN for all the love and support they have shown us! I think it’s the same story, that once you’ve finished one project, you are ready to move on to the next, it’s great to know people are enjoying this album though.

This latest release is the band’s first album released on. DGC/Interscope What are the advantages to being on a major label?
The opportunity to get OUR music out to more people, and having more people to hear our story is a big plus. It feels like a bigger team working behind you, that have your back!

You waited until your third album to self-title it – does that hold some significance to the band and the music?
Yeah, we feel like we are finally heading in the right direction, with the sound we want. Also, this being the first release on a major label, we wanted it to be an introduction to who we are, ESCAPE THE FATE!

Craig said at one point that the band wanted this album to be a little darker – do you feel like you’ve accomplished that overall?
Yes, definitely. You can definitely hear it in tracks like “Lost in Darkness”, “Zombie Dance”, and “Gorgeous Nightmare”.

Is there a track on the album that stands out to you as the most rewarding to write & record?
Yes, “World Around Me”.

There’s a quote from Robert about the album that kind of struck me – he said “It examines every emotion from anger to anxiety to happiness. This album will make you feel something.” How hard was it to reel in all of those emotions and put them together in a cohesive effort because the album does have a great flow?
We have an amazing guitarist/songwriter, and when I am presented with the music, I can really feel it. The overall tone comes naturally, for some reason I just know what to do.

I think over all one of the things I personally took away from the album that seems to be missing in a lot of bands these days is the attitude and the swagger. It’s in your face and unapologetic – do you think that describes the band in general?
I like the word swag, I hope people continue to describe us as having swag, it makes me feel like a “g”.

Escape The Fate released a Remix EP of “Issues”. I especially like the Does It Offend You, Yeah?’ Remix. What made you decide to release a remix EP of the track?
Well they had a remix so you could spin it in clubs and bars that was on the record, we had a bunch of remixes from a lot of artists, so we thought why not release it. The Does It Offend You Yeah? remix is definitely one of my favorites!

Escape The Fate worked with Josh Todd of Buckcherry on “10 Miles Wide” (off your second album This War Is Ours), and you performed on Motley Crue’s Crue Fest, which resulted in Mick Mars jamming with Monte on a few songs. How did that end up going with Mick?
We worked with Josh Todd on a track called ”10 Miles Wide”, Mick Mars heard it, and wanted to work with us. Great guy, really easy to work with.

Your headlining tour (“The Dead Masquerade” Tour) with Alesana, Motionless in White, Get Scared and Drive A started on January 20th. How’s it going so far? How are fans responding to the new album?
Fans are responding tremendously well, all of the bands are awesome and have become really good friends. If you haven’t caught a date on this tour, you should definitely check out one of the remaining dates! (Check out our photo gallery from the Worcester, MA show here.)

The album cover for your self-titled album looks like I pays a little hommage to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. Did Queen influence the band at all? Who else would you say the major influences were for Escape The Fate?
Queen is a great band, so obviously they are a great influence. These days, a good song is a good song, and are always influences, whether it be old or new.
