Bajram Rexhepi

Minister of Internal Affairs

Bajram Rexhepi is the Minister of Internal Affairs in the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.
Bajram Rexhepi was the first internationally recognized Prime Minister of Kosovo. In this post, he was nominated based on the agreement between the three major political parties of Kosovo, while on 4 March 2002, attained vote of confidence by the Assembly of Kosovo to lead with the Government of Coalition.
When the name of Mr. Rexhepi was mentioned as a possible candidate for the post of Prime Minister, he found enormous support by everyone, as from the international instance as well as from the relevant Kosovo entities.
His Medical Studies finished in the University of Prishtina. For years worked as a doctor. He finished his specialization in Zagreb. As a Specialist of General Surgery and Endoscopy worked in the Medical House and the Regional Hospital of Mitrovica.
Seeing as a necessity his help, in capacity of a surgeon doctor, he joined the KLA forces. During this time he gave an extraordinary human contribution as a surgeon doctor for all the people that were threatened by humanitarian catastrophe.
After the end of war in Kosovo, Mr. Rexhepi was Mayor of Mitrovica, the city that suffered division. Thanks to his calm and maturity he managed to avoid interethnic escalations and bloodsheds of high scale, which were having a tendency to occur constantly in this city.
In the First Local Elections, October 2000, Mr. Rexhepi was elected as a Deputy in the Municipal Assembly of Mitrovica, whereas in the 2001 Elections was elected as a Deputy in the Assembly of Kosovo.
In the Parliamentary Elections of 2007, Mr. Bajram Rexhepi was elected as a Deputy in the Parliament of Kosovo whereas for the reason of his candidacy for the Mayor of Municipal Assembly of Mitrovica withdraws from the MP’s position and in December 2007 he wins the elections and carries out the position of Mayor until January 2010. Also, during his two years term as the Mayor of Municipality of Mitrovica, Mr. Bajram Rexhepi was President of the Association of Municipalities of Kosovo.
Currently, lives in Prishtina with his wife Shpresa and daughter Vanesa.
