Dark Angel

Dark Angel exceeds your expectations for a television show soundtrack. Many of the songs here are quite impressive, beginning with the album-opening "Dark Angel Theme," a collaboration between Public Enemy and MC Lyte. As the soundtrack progresses, you may not be dazzled by the superstar quotient, but you're likely to be wowed by such songs as Khia's "My Neck, My Back," Samantha Cole's "Bring It to Me" (including its appended remix), and Mystic's "The Life." The hip-hop tracks unfortunately don't quite measure up to the neo-soul tracks. This seems to be a female-orientated soundtrack, perhaps because of the show's female lead character. Yet the few hip-hop moments aren't disappointing by any means, just a bit lackluster in comparison. Finally, Dark Angel includes a couple of previously released songs, including "Candy," a sassy collaboration between Foxy Brown, Kelis, and the Neptunes. This catchy song -- as fun and naughty as anything the Neptunes did in the early 2000s -- adds even more value to this already impressive soundtrack.
